Well viewers were conned with Channel 4's You Say we Pay , in Richard and Judy's teatime chat show. Now BBC One's cookery show, may have conned viewers to phone in when it was recorded.. read the article here.

A BBC One cookery show has been accused of a Richard and Judy-style phone line con.

According to the News of the World, viewers of Saturday Kitchen were invited to call in and speak to guests live on air - but the programme had been pre-recorded one week earlier. Host James Martin reminded fans that they could talk to guests including chef Paul Merrett a total of five times during the show.

At the end of the previous week's episode, viewers had been told that they could call to win a place on "next week's show", which was filmed just minutes later.

Saturday Kitchen is made by Cactus TV - the same company responsible for Channel 4's Richard and Judy show, which has come under fire for cheating viewers with its 'You Say, We Pay' quiz.

Sir Alastair Graham, chairman of premium rate regulator Icstis, has promised to investigate the new claims.

A BBC spokesman admitted that the show had been pre-recorded and money was made from phone lines, but insisted that there was no deliberate con.

He explained: "Mistakes were made by James Martin in his presentation. These mistakes were not part of the script - they were simple cock-ups."

So do you think it was a mistake, or just a big con? Also notice how Cactus TV makes Saturday Kitchen, the company who also makes the You Say We Pay in Richard and Judy.

It's the 'Many thanks from Andrew' bit I'm finding increasingly hard to stomach.

It also makes you wonder about that celebrity bit Food Heaven or Food Hell.
If its recorded a week earlier do they do both Heaven and Hell and just show the winning recipe or just record the one!

This story is noticeably absent from BBC News Online but according to a BBC spokesman (this originating from Waveguide)

Eh? His presentation? Not part of the script? They better not be able to get away with that kind of babbled nonsense. The fact is, they intended the show to be broadcast 'as live'. We all know there's loads of show which do this but it's clearly underhand to invite people to phone a show that's been pre-recorded unless there's a special set up (Deal or No Deal and Paul O'Grady Show for example).

Unlike Richard and Judy, James and the team will have been fully aware no viewers would get through.
