Has there been any news on how Blue Peter will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in October? According to the BBC Jobs website, the programme is "...looking forward to some exciting and headline-grabbing celebrations...."

Blue Peter - Deputy Editor

So in the space of just over half a year, the programme has lost 3 presenters, Series Producer and the Deputy Editor.

And yet not the man responsible for it's downfall. When does Blue Peter return? Any news on the hosts?

Completely agree too TMi should get the full Saturday morning slot - and that should be on BBC1. Saturday Kitchen is not that important!

Could it be that Jack Lundie has been promoted to editor, and in fact Tim Levell has gone? I would hope so - nothing much has disappointed me more than Levell, someone with a strong heritage in CBBC, and his handling of Blue Peter last series.

Wasn't the reason the Saturday morning childrens TV moved to BBC Two was to avoid it needing to move around when there were special events on a Saturday; like Trooping the Colour. With F1 coming to the BBC, presumably on BBC1, CBBC would get better continuity of times on BBC1.

I know that was initially their excuse - but then soon after I think the Winter Olympics and Commonwealth Games came along and were played out on BBC2 so that their precious Saturday Kitchen wasn't disturbed.

Really though the Saturday morning schedule is only disturbed a couple of times a year and for events like the Olympics so it's not too much of an issue. And F1 doesn't usually begin until around midday anyway, so it's not really a reason to keep them on BBC2.

They could at least play out TMI from around September to March on BBC1, then use BBC2 for the filler programmes in the summer.

I agree with that. TMi through both series has had the promise of being a much oved Saturday Morning programme, one for children and adults alike. The problem is that not many people know about it, and don't seem to watch it on BBC Two. I'm sure that the majority of the old Saturday Morning BBC One shows inherited most of their audiences as people tuned in early for Grandstand.

If they give them the time slot, a good series length, and either leicester square or the big full on studio treatment at TVC, they've already got the talent in Sam, Mark & Caroline, get the programmes right within TMi, such as the Secret Show, and not Prank Patrol (go for an imported comedy or even the Sarah Jane adventures), and the rest should follow.

For anybody wanting entertainment on a saturday morning, the only other place to find it is with Soccer AM. I'm sure that there are enough people watching from bed, or lounging on the sofa on a Saturday morning who want this sort of show, but don't like football, and don't like cooking either.

Completely agree, although Leicester Square would be out seeing as MTV seem intent on hogging it (think MTV still own it) and I dont think TVC suits this kind of show, noticed something that could work though when I was in London a while back, in Zavvi in Piccadilly Circus, I was thinking to myself that if they took say the second floor and gave the bit around the window at the front to TMI, it'd be a whole lot better, Musicial acts drawing the crowd in, TMI gets a killer location, not that expensive to set up either.

Was that when they were in TC9?

No, TC2 which they shared with XChange mostly, but several other shows during its time including the shorter Newsround bulletins and Lite/Showbiz.

Thank you for those you two, I've been looking for stuff like that.

No problem, there are still a few more to come!

As you say, TC2 was the studio used for XChange, Newsround and the CBBC Channel. The continuity bits were done from TC2 up until 6pm, after that they transferred to the CBBC One studio (which I believe was TC9 IIRC?).

Newsround Lite/Showbiz was located behind those medal doors, which you could often see through the entrance to the CBBC studio...

So they did pretty well back then, making use of the small space they had.
