It's funny because when I watched the show in the 90s it felt like presenters were coming and going all the time, but there were actually quite a few long runs - Diane Louise Jordan did six years (the first 'leaving show' I remember), Katy Hill and Stuart Miles did five each, and even Tim Vincent did four. I suppose presenters like Romana D'Something (who only did about a year) and of course Richard Bacon made things seem a bit quicker, but generally you'd get one or two new presenters every year. That's what made it so surprising when the Konnie/Simon/Matt/Liz team lasted four years without a single change.

Bit worried about Mark Speight going AWOL too. I remember seeing him in Battersea Park in 1997 in his 'Scratchy & Co' guise (the Saturday morning ITV show he used to host while everyone else was watching Live & Kicking) with an massive crowd of kids around him getting his autograph, but I was too shy to myself...

With Gethin leaving, they are going to need a very strong professional person to replace him, as the other two seem quite " false " in their presenting style IMO. Although I would have thought the end should and would have been coming for Blue Peter in the last couple of years, it would be the final nail in the coffin for CBBC ( on BBC One / Two at least ) if they dropped it now, what with all the negative comments about the new programmes mentioned previously in the thread.

It would be the ideal time for them to admit it was a mistake cutting it to two shows a week - I still can't see how producing a third Blue Peter a week would cost more than a separate show all together.

And then replace Gethin with two new hosts, taking it back up to the three out of four hosting arrangement.

Since Konnie left have they continued with just two hosts each show?

Do they still update this?

That looks a bit rubbish, don't it?

Yeah, but to be fair, a ten year old designed it so some allowances should be made.

That wasn't the point of cutting it to two though was it - they insisted it was just to up the quality, not because of cost-cutting (whether that was true or not I don't know).

I notice Grange Hill (or "New Beginnings - Grange Hill") is starting next Monday, surprised it's on BBC1, I thought they'd bury it on CBBC as they did with the last Byker Grove series!

Well they've failed spectacularly on that front then!

Gethin's replacement is crucial - if they get it right the show might be saved, but if they get it wrong it's going to be looking even more likely that the axe will fall before the decade is out.

New Beginnings is merely an episode subtitle (a la Tonight With Trevor McDonald). But I'm pleased it'll at least be on the right channel!

It actually sounds like they are airing series 30 before they air the new series. I never watched or seen any of the last few but I know bits about it, and this sounds like the one that was hidden on the CBBC Channel.

Quote:

Children's drama series. It's a hectic start to the new school year as we meet the year 7s and Lucy decides to spice things up by bringing in the Johnsons' puppy - and it doesn't take long before it makes a bid for freedom! Tiger decides to make his feelings known to Alison, but Ed is on a mission to stop him. Alex has turned over a new leaf and enrols in the school 'buddy' scheme.

The episode for 21/4/08 also lists Chris Perry-Metcalf.

No, it's series 31. See www.grangehill.com for an exclusive clip (and soon there will be backstag stuff & more previews) And I'm guessing CBBC will start airing ads tomorrow. Smile
EDIT: no ads on 11th (like I predicted) - maybe weekend

On the subject of the comings and goings of CBBC programmes, are we to presume that the revival of Jackanory was just a very short term one? There was no new programmes last year and no further mention since the initial ( two ) stories. ( I know Jackanory Junior has carried on on CBeebies )
