It's a bit of an odd choice to make the logo more 'mature', when that doesn't fit with the age range CBBC is meant to be aiming at, surely!
In terms of how it works on-screen, it'll probably depend how it's implemented - so I can't really second guess whether the look will improve just by the isolated logo at this point.
i reserve judgement for the logo even though it does seem a bit garish! Let's face it tho... film4's logo looked a bit ugly at first but when animated it serves its purpose well being unique and outstanding

They are shifting the intended audience to an older age range to try go up against Nickelodeon and Disney Channels.
Doesn't the press release say he will host CBBC weekday afternoons, could this mean that Gemma/Anne/whoever are used on the channel, etc. Just to think back at how big it seemed just 5 years ago, that massive studio for the channel with a live programme exclusively twice a day, spin off programmes, god knows how many presenters, along with studio 9 for one/two and their own presenters, now it just feels tiny in comparison, even though the budget is there, but is being spent on bigger programmes - mainly expensive drama series, isn't this where BBC One used to put the money in to make the sunday afternoon type dramas?
As for the new identity, it does look interesting, not sure I like the idea of bbc and then bbc, maybe they should have just reverted back to Children's or if not good enough - Chil BBC.
