I don't see why they couldn't broadcast it almost live, like they tried before - at least it gives people a reason to actually watch the show. Or if they think it's too risky for ITV1, why not show it live on ITV2 followed by the edited down version on ITV1 a day later...

It happens with all award shows, not just the Brits.

The British Comedy Awards are live and look what a shambles that turns into. If the Brit Awards were live they'd probably start over-running after about 10 minutes, rush to squeeze everything into the last half hour and the cut the programme mid-sentance during the lifetime achievement award!

Yes, but isn't it great!???

Over-running doesn't seem to be a problem when it's Football - why should it matter for anything else? (Not to mention the fact that ITV over-run about 90% of the time anyway)

I don't see what benefit it being live will bring. If last night's edited edition lacked atmosphere then surely an extended edition with the links that were cut out would have been even worse

The Brits differs from the other awards shows in that its actually a show as well as the awards bit. Even if you know who won there's still all the performances to watch

Er, the buzz, the anticipation, the knowing that anything could happen - that there's no time to go back and cut out bits?

The fact that the awards are announced there and then without us finding out beforehand?

I still think it would be better live. Its annoying when we know who has won what before the show is televised.

I seem to remember moaning about this last year. Its a shame as it isn't live anymore as the editing down just ruins it.

They could and should have editied the Prince bit down it went on far too long.

The trick is sky+ it and you can watch the whole thing in about half hour then. Laughing

Less, it would have been a lot less slick live. It's content would be very diffrent too as they'd have less time to redress sets, move Chris Evans around etc. The continuity and presentation of the show would be very diffrent

I think it should be live-a lot of people don't bother to watch it when all the results are announced on the radio and printed in the paper beforehand. It used to be the music event now it's just a bit of a joke.
How Kaiser Cheifs can be claimed as the Brit masters and Coldplay Speed Of Sound win best single is beyond me.
