Chris Evans - very yesterday. Actually, hold that thought, I was already bored with him yesterday.

Filmlook - call me a freak if you like (you wouldn't be the first!) but I think it really detracts from this show. To me, it robs it of all chance of looking like an exciting live gig. Once it has been processed like that it looks more like a fake show created for a feature film.

Agreed. There is an immediacy in crisp video that lends itself to the type of gig the Brits is supposed to be.

I have no problem with the technique per-se, but this just wasn't the show for it.

Also, I felt it somewhat spolt it this year by the tabloids and TV/Radio revealing all the winners - i know it happens all the time, but it really annoys me and actually means there is no point really watching the show as you already know who has won what!

But it's a live event that is televised, you can't expect the media not to mention what happened until ITV broadcast it. The winners are in the public domain as soon as the first person walks out of the auditorium.

It's just like when broadcasters give out the results of a Grand Prix that happened over night - there's no way you can suppress the information

I know! Doesn't make it any less annoying though does it??

I don't see why they couldn't broadcast it almost live, like they tried before - at least it gives people a reason to actually watch the show. Or if they think it's too risky for ITV1, why not show it live on ITV2 followed by the edited down version on ITV1 a day later...

It happens with all award shows, not just the Brits.

Wasn't the ceremony held in the afternoon a couple of years ago and then shown on TV in the evening of the same day? It did make it more exciting not knowing who was about to win each award.

Chris Evans is not the same person as he once was. He's got this 'schoolboy' persona about him and its very boring. I think the best Brits for me was back in 1997 with Ben Elton hosting - it had an unpredictability about it and brilliant acts as well! I even recorded it on VHS.

Last night's show was really just Chris Evans introducing bland bands. There wasn't much ad-lib or anything. It was edited down so much in my opinion.

Oh and Kanye West? Music with a political statement? - what a load of old ****! Mad Yeah, 75 gold-painted women walking around is a 'statement' is it? Confused Give me Jacko's Earth Song and Cocker's hand-flapping anyday! Laughing

In that sense but the show itself ended up being edited very sloppily, with some bad cuts. It was also the year (2003) that they banned booze and had the audience in cinema-style seating so it robbed it of any atmosphere at all.

Funny how no-one's mentioned this was the first time in four years there wasn't a Brits ident. But several sightings of the sport ident in peak time. How does that represent the Brits?

I agree, it would be far better if all awards shows were shown live on tv.

I'm guessing it's the "emotion" - isn't that what they're all supposed to represent? So, probably excitement, anticipation etc.... I'm with you though, it's clearly a sport ident and should be used for that purpose alone.

It just doesn't have the 'buzz' it used to have for some reason.

The British Comedy Awards are live and look what a shambles that turns into. If the Brit Awards were live they'd probably start over-running after about 10 minutes, rush to squeeze everything into the last half hour and the cut the programme mid-sentance during the lifetime achievement award!
