The Bill over the years seems to have started out good, gotten worse but now seems to be improving. I've found myself rather interested in the story lines now.
The recent ad begs to wonder how exactly this LIVE edition will work.
+ Did Coronation Street not do this but it turned out to be little more than a few lines.
+ Will this not cost a heck of an amount, especially by reading the programme info on the site it seems there are over 200+ working on it.
Well it's said to be an action packed, no expense spared episode, unlike Corrie which was mainly people sat talking. Yes, it probably will be expensive.
Yes, certainly very ambitious when you consider what could go wrong. There are certainly a lot of people involved, The Bill website has more details see below :
I'm excited about this. As for live car chases, they are very much feasable... just look at MOTORS ACTION in Disneyland. Live car chases [and I was in it ]
CORRIE STARS JOIN THE BILL FOR LIVE SHOW
By Anthony Barnes, Showbusiness Editor, PA News
Former Coronation Street stars are to join the cast of The Bill for a live
episode of the police drama on Thursday, it was announced today.
Charles Dale - who played Corrie's Dennis Stringer - and Denise Black (Denise
Osbourne) began rehearsals yesterday for the as-it-happens episode.
The live edition of The Bill is being screened for the programme's 20th
anniversary.
Dale already has experience of live TV acting after taking part in the
Street's one-off special in December 2000.
Also joining The Bill cast for this week's episode is Cathy Shipton, best
known to TV viewers for her role as Nurse Duffy in Casualty.
Dale will play crazed knifeman Mark Nevitt who is seen threatening to cut DC
Juliet Becker's throat at the start of the episode
A spokeswoman for The Bill said: "This episode of The Bill really will be
unmissable television.
"Live drama rarely happens on screen these days and the actors and production
team are working hard to get everything right for Thursday night.
"It's nerve-wracking for everyone but a brilliant way to celebrate 20
years."
Bosses of the show have asked members of the cast to be restrained at the
National Television Awards two nights earlier to make sure they are on top
form.
Show bosses are planning several spectacular stunts and fight scenes have been
carefully choreographed.
If anything goes wrong former Brookside actress Vickie Gates, who recently
joined the show as front desk officer Marilyn Chambers, is being groomed to save
the day.
She will ad lib throughout the show and the director will cut to her while any
problems with the main action are sorted out.
Cast members are learning each others' lines in case they have to help out
should anyone forget.
The episode is going out in real time, similar to the American hit series 24
with viewers seeing an action-packed hour at Sun Hill.
There will be no time delay during transmission so if anything does go wrong,
there will be no time to avoid screening it.

Oh yes, live car chases are feasible, they happen in many British cities every night of the year.
The ones at Disney are not really the same, they aren't being filmed - especially not from inside, they also exsist in a fantasy land, not on real roads

I used to love The Bill. Nevermissed an episode. Now though, it's so unrealistic. To think how many police officers have died, been killed, been involved in various crimes, been corrupt etc. begs belief.
They need to start focusing more on the crimes and leave the personal lives of the characters alone. Every single bloody drama is surrounded by peoples love lives and general domestic riffs. It's so boring. Go back to the way it was. The cases and the crimes.
And anyway the police cases of stolen cars, vandalism etc would get boring after a while, cause I'm sure that's mostly what the police have to deal with.

Err - do you suggest that the Bill film at Disneyland then? If the car chase features characters who also have to appear live in scenes either side then they'd have to use public roads that would need to be closed off - and the safety implications, as well as technical issues, would be really serious. It IS possible in a limited way (The Late, Late Breakfast Show did similar stuff in the early 80s) - but whether you could integrate it effectively into a live show...
It'll be interesting to see how they do it - whether it is multiple OB units, or just one supertruck used. (The Bill is normally filmed single camera - though Family Affairs is multicamera and on the same site...)
There's a promo for The Bill Live, and the music seems to have something which sounds like a grass hopper in the background. Everytime I hear it, it makes my ears go funny. They start tingling!
Bizarre I know, but has anyone else been affected by it?
