I don't know if I'm in the minority but I quite like it - it's not brilliant, but it's a nice arrangement. Just a shame that it's completely different and that only one familiar motif remains.

The cynic in me would say that changing such an establsihed theme is to provoke people's curiosity in the show and bring back past viewers - just to see what all the fuss is about.

After a period of public 'outrage', the theme as we know currently know it will return.

I think the video has been changed to what it was last night. yesterday it was the credits , now it seems to have changed to the opening titles. it's similar but without the wide shot of London and shots of people . Not sure i like "the bill" flashing like it does ( you'll know what i mean when you see it)

So was I when that was first posted. I think it was just showing a cached version because I'd already visited the site before. This time I went via itv.com/thebill rather than thebill.com and the new version is showing for me now. The music for the opening and closing seem to be slightly different and the closing music is also 10 seconds longer.

I'd imagine they have also recorded a full Overkill version based in that style. In theory they could keep the same backing and just overlay the first few bars of the main overkill '88 melody but slowed right down.

(it's difficult to explain music here but I know what I mean! Laughing )

Really? What makes you think this? Surely that'd cost more money, or am I being naïve?

I would love for that to be true !

The first couple of minutes and titles are now up on Broadcast and Media Guardian. I don't think people are going to be happy - and the new theme is barely there.

The majority of people I've seen on just a few forums appear to be very happy.

I like the music, but the title sequence is very short. The 2001 series currently being shown on Alibi also had quite a short title sequence.

No doubt we'll have to wait for the late night repeats on ITV3 to be able to hear the full closing sequence without the unnecessary ECP chatter. Confused

TalkbackThames have certainly been wheeling out the actors for promotional interviews today. Simon Rouse and Alex Walkinshaw were on BBC Breakfast, while Lucy Speed made an appearance on Loose Women. No doubt somebody turned up on the celebrity-fest that is GMTV too. Wink
