Don't know if this has already been mentioned, but the adverts for the new look have the old logo, the one Beep has just posted. But then I wouldn't call the new titles a 'logo' really, just some text.

Anyways, to my mind if they wanted a darker theme for the Bill, they could do worse than to use the theme from this era:

I think they were the best titles until now, Mr-Stabby, but the problem with having characters in them is that they have to be changed regularly for soaps. Hollyoaks is a good example of that.

I did enjoy the two episodes of The Bill this week, but I'm still unhappy about the way it's broadcast for us SD luddites: despite noggin's excellent explanation, at times it appeared to be more film noir than HD to an SD viewer such as me.

The new title sequence (and rather fab music, IMO) suited the tone of the story this week, so I've changed my mind about that from my earlier post, although I still think it should be a bit longer.

Here's a clip of the title sequence (sans episode name) for those who haven't seen it:

There has always been a numbering system in production terms, just like any TV programme. Episode 1, 2 etc.

Only with The Bill, in 2002 ITV decided to do away with titles for episodes and for the first time the public saw the episode numbers used in the public domain. As well as this, because it changed from a continuing drama to a soap, they decided to roll back to episode "001" (the episode where the station was blown up iirc).

Then in 2007, when the format changed back to a continuing drama again, episode titles returned, although the numbering system remained in the background and was still used by the ITV Press office for episode details.

Now the programme has moved to 9pm, the episode numbers have been set once again in line with a "new era". So it's started from 001 again. To add even more confusion, episodes are shown out of order to this week we'll be seeing episode 20 just one week into the new look.

I don't think there are any plans to scrap the episode titles again, it's just they still use the numbering system for production (albeit in a slightly complicated fashion!)

It was 008 that it got blown up by Des Taviner, 007 when Conway's car was firebombed.
