Truthfully though, whenever Ricky appeared on EastEnders it was cue to go and make a cup of tea.

Whenever EastEnders appears, it's my cue to get up and make a cup of tea Wink

I notice on Youtube, there has been a spate of people uploading episodes of The Bill . Some from recent episodes; others are previews from TB Thames and some older episodes.... Viv Martella's shooting is on there. Complete with Burnside's harsh line: "Don't go frosty on me-- we've already lost one silly bitch!"

I just can't stand the way The Bill is shot - it's so shaky and cheap looking. I understand it's supposed to give off a 'realistic' effect but really, in reality, it just makes me lose concentration.

Tried to watch tonight - a potentially a great episode but it was spoilt by the ridiculous camera motion; it was swerving all over the place as though the camera man was drunk out of his head.

I also dislike the opening titles. What have they done to the music? It was bad enough when they removed most of the main tune from it but now even what was the background music is quieter. It's almost too punchy in some ways but dull overall. The font they use for the episode titles in the endcap and the writer and director credits is cheap as well.

Overall - not watchable. Shame, seeing as I hear the new producer has brought it right back to policing.

Not watchable in your opinion Pad-- the show still gets good ratings from what I believe Wink It is solely about policing now, and all the better for it as you say.

They've only just starting messing with trendy camera work in the past few months-- I don't think it enchances the "fly on the wall" aspect of The Bill . Doesn't distract me enough to not watch the show, personally.

I don't mind the current opening titles, I think they are far better than the previous ones-- which were a load blurred/boscured images. Least the current ones are recongisable as policing around London; I don't feel they'll ever beat the two coppers walking down the street-- that seemed "iconic" somehow.

I thought the camera work was dreadful last night. It's usually shaky but it works well because it has a sense of immediacy and works within the context of a police drama. But last night they kept cutting to these jerky close-ups every few seconds and it looked dreadful. Good episode but I hope all that nonsense was a one-off.

I agree, The Bill is far better now than it has been for a few years, now that the storylines have gone back to being about policing not the characters personal lives.

P.S. How hot is Sgt Callum Stone Smile

Yes I agree with that, especially with that DI Nixon's briefing with the relief towars the end. I was thinking: "Get a tripod for pity's sake". All very wonky and shaky, although the zooming didn't irritate too much.

Of course zooming in on Sam Callis's face is no bad thing is it Jez Wink It would seem Sgt Stone has a dark side to him Surprised

Perhapps it was the cameraman from The Bourne Ultimatum? I like the current opening titles they seem modern and upbeat. The music is the best remix so far. I heard rumours that The Bill was being cut short to one episode a week.

I dont think that would be a bad thing - it would help keep the quality high.

It's all rumours atm - I think ITV denied them not long ago although I wouldn't be against them dropping the Thursday episode. I'd like to see Corrie and Emmerdale reduced as well though.

Id prefer the Wednesday episode dropped and they kept the Thursday personally. Dont care how many times they show Emmerdale as I no longer watch, however it would be nice to see more variety in the 7pm slot.
