Is this about to change Saturday Nights on ITV1? (May 2005)

I was searching through Applause Store (as you do) and came acrosee tickets for this show. It's called The Big Call and this was the summary:

This breathtaking new ITV1 show features celebrities, huge tension and drama, plus all the excitement of winning life-changing sums of cash in return for showing some good all-round knowledge and then making one very important decision.


This is the first I have heard of it. It will film in June/July (I don't know if it will be live or recorded), but this sounds like a great show that may bring back the viewers to ITV1 on Saturday nights, who have seemed to have fled to BBC One. What are your views?

Sounds similar to Saturday Night Takeaway. Hopefully this doesn't mean it'll be axed!

Are ITV just totally stupid, yet another Celebrity driven pile of drivel.

This has been in the pipeline for months, I remember reading about it ages ago, good to see it finally being made.

As per usual, people will have a negative reaction to it based on one paragraph

Andrew, I wouldn't bother sticking up for ITV anymore - I have always tried to give balanced views and a pro-ITV stance - but i'm giving up as its totally pointless. Im just not going to take part in any anti-ITV threads anymore.

What's the point?

PS the programme idea sounds better than Celebrity Wrestling!

I always stick up for ITV as well owan, but I do think they have gone OTT with all these celebrity programmes recently.

However this new series does sound very good on paper, and they need something good for a Saturday night instead of the now dire WWTBAM.

Whenever anyone mentions "Doctor Who", I always want to add "Ooooh HAH! The Tar-Disss!". But I refrain.

I think people aren't judging it on that paragraph - but on the word "celebrity".


If it's another celebrity driven format, I agree. ITV need to learn that the more celeb formats they have, the less attractive they become.


However, I think it's more of a game show - probabably the summer filler for Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

I'm guessing after poor ratings last year in The Vault has now been axed. Shame, it was a good format - and though it struggled in it's Tuesday night slot, it was good to have something different to watch mid-week.
