OK guys - factoid one. ABC1 will be on Channel 15 and on Freeview. It will NOT be on TopUpTv even though it's on SDN. ABC1/Daytime was always envisaged as a Free-To-Air channel and is being allowed onto Freeview because of it. There was no talk of Ideal World possibly becoming a TUTV channel was there? Just because this one actually could have some decent output doesn't mean it's going to go to the TUTV elite.
Err - if ABC1 is being carried via SDN's Mux A then it isn't part of Freeview is it - or have SDN signed up and joined the consortium?
Freeview is (or was) the BBC / Crown Castle / Sky operation running muxes 1, B, C, D.
Muxes 2 and A (the ones that are still 64QAM) are run by D3/4 (and carry ITV/C4 etc.) and SDN respectively and weren't part of Freeview.
As such then ABC1 isn't being "allowed onto Freeview" is it? They are just paying for part-time space in SDNs mux. Whether they also pay for encryption or run FTA is surely their choice - and I think they are sensibly chosing the FTA (+eventual advertising) route.

You're being picky. I was using Freeview, like many people do - even the BBC - as a generic term for non-subscription Digital Terrestrial Television. Rather than confusing people who don't know all the acronyms, Freeview is an easier term to use than FTA, DTT or DVB. When I say Freeview I mean channels on all muxes that you dont need a card for - Free To Air. So that includes Bid Up, S4C and Five who are on SDN Mux A.

On this point I agree. I wish more broadcasters would have the balls to launch a FTA channel on the FTA DTT platform.
A pair of Mickey Mouse ears squished together - apt for a Disney channel, no?
Is that the actual logo or a mock?
If its the real thing, i think it looks a little tacky. I rather like the 'abc' circle and text but the '1' doesn't go with it at all, it looks flat and out of place. I think, perhaps, they should actually write the number so 'abc one' and improve the colour of the second circle.
I quite like the logo, plus I'm sure it would animate on screen in some way. The two circles (which simply represent the ABC logo, not the Disney Micky Mouse Ears) could roll together or something similar to that.
I just hope we don't get ABC's terrible pres on this new channel. They used to have a fantastic on-screen identity, but now it revolves around an unusual randomly sized, randomly spaced rectanngle motif, which looks terrible. I hope they get a brand new look in the Fall (*ahem* Autumn), which carries over into ABC1.
I've just done a re-scan and it now comes up as 'abc1' and I also now have 'talkSPORT' adn 'Premier Radio' broadcasting but I also have '4TVinteractive' on channel 704, does anyone know what this is for, since we already have 'Fourtext'?
