On BBC One just then there was a fake Thames Television ident leading into the Celebrity Total Wipeout programme. It showed the London skyline, the bouncy red balls rising up and the official Thames Television ident theme. It was quite nice to hear the theme tune again on prime time telly and even the continuity announcer played along saying just before it showed 'This really is BBC One'. Laughing

The main continuity is missing (obviously) but the Thames mock is there.

It's not bad actually...

Actually that entire opening segment most probably spoofs something else - I'm sure I've seen it somewhere before but I can't place it. Also, what is that music from?

Blankety Blank maybe??

Yes. The script and style were just like this...

although I guess the brief was just to make it look like a general 80s game show rather than Blankety Blank specifically, otherwise they would have surely used the real theme tune or a piece of music that sounded like it.

Here is how the BBC One England CA introduced the programme...

When I hear that Thames sting, first thing that pops into my head is that cracking Thames News music.

Another ident on BBC One:
Part of George Gently tonight was supposed to be set in the Tyne Tees studios and in the background you could see the old Tyne Tees ident from 1959. Very Happy

Just for a spoof. No real reason.

A quick tip, if you right-click on a YouTube clip it gives you the option to 'Copy video URL at current time' - that will give you an address that will make everyone who views it skip straight to the time you want - in this case 3:30
