Channel 4 use 83188 a lot for various things. I think they first used it for Big Brother voting.

They also have 84444 which they've used for Big Brother voting at the same time as using 83188 for other things.
ITV's is 63338 or 63335 (can't remember exactly), same as the ITV News Channel vote number.
It picks up keywords, the first word of the message determines where the message is delivered to. For example at Radio 1, News delivers it to the newsroom, Scotland delivers it to the Scotland studio (as Chris Moyles found out when he once gave rugby tickets away and said text Scotland or Ireland depending on which game you want, only to find he couldn't get to all the texts with Scotland in them. The system can do search of how many texts start with a particular word too, so that's how they can use it for voting.

IIRC ITV Regional News programmes share the same number, but to make it appropriate to your region they'll say Text 'Granada' to 8something. I did this once and got back a generic message from ITV News, telling me to keep my on the ITV Regional News programme.

Not that strange, Jersey Telecom aren't going to use up the 999,999 phone numbers with a 07797 prefix. Why not sell them off

Funny how Who Wants to Be a Millionaire uses a standard mobile number. Even more strange is that it's an 07797 which is infact a Channel Islands dialling code. A Jersey mobile phone prefix to be precise
