I just find it too convenient that it's a crap camera recording a crap screen playing a crap quality video.

The uploader suggests that the video was sourced from MHP Private Parts, however as a member I was unable to find any record of such a video being uploaded on the website. I have asked the uploader for the file name for the video, so I can run a search for it.

Pretty certain that the YouTube uploader is nwtv2003. It might have been on MHP at one point but got deleted.

What I can confirm is that the video was downloaded from MHP Private Parts. The quality of it as you can tell is poor as it was encoded in an older Real Video format. As far as I'm aware the video wasn't a mock, and the same user who uploaded this clip also uploaded the 1989 generic idents that weren't used, by which I mean Anglia, Channel, UTV etc.

The pointing of the camera at the screen is something which I did as I couldn't find any software to convert the file, although one of the comments does provide a link to this. Unfortunately my laptop is on the blink at the moment so I have no further detail or access to the original file, but I must have downloaded it around 2001 or 2002.

Aye, that's exactly what I was getting at. They just show up at random.

Plus tones of files went missing during the great crash about 7 years ago?

It's a mock. The logo has been badly cut out using Photoshop - you can see how the logo bleeds and the edges have become almost rounded, whereas the logo of the time was much more precise and angular.

Why can't people grasp that a test logo would not look exactly like the finished product?

I'm erring on it being a mock. The actual animation itself doesn't look 1989 to me, if that makes sense, particularly when the 'V' LWT shape comes in. The file doesn't appear to be on the MHP anymore, which may suggest that it was a mock and deleted by the original author when found out.

If it is a mock though, then they've gone a long way to make it as realistic as a "test ident" could be, with similar footage to the finished ident - dancers, dove, actors (I think), Big Ben.

Certainly a lot less clear cut than the BBC test idents, which were posted in high quality from a reputable source.

The shots are all different, but very similar. Someone has gone to the effort to try and find similar footage to make this mock.

Of course this animation was just for LWT. What about other franchises such as Central or Anglia, and Granada whose logos don't lend themselves to this landscape animation

Has anyone suggested they can't grasp that? Perhaps better to quote a specific person so they can answer that question direct.
