I must admit that would be something I'd like - the radio stations in digital quality on DTT
- well if they can do it on DSat, why not? .
Because then you'd have the radio stations being broadcast twice from the same transmitters - in DTT and DAB.... bit of a waste.
Wouls be far better to build DAB recievers into DTT boxes
i agree that space on dtt is scarce, so broadcasting DAB 24/7 would be a waste ... but, couldnt they add 6music, 5 live sports extra etc. as channels on the DTT line up (in the 800s or something) - then when knowledge/choice close split the capacity up to carry the DAB - put MHEG captions on choice/knowledge - so all many more people can get a taste of DAB.
at the moment - vary few prople have the £200+ recievers at home, although some new models of cars carry them. and people could sample what DAB has to offer before spending on the set.
thinking about it - when parliament is showing nothing - they could use the space from parliaments audio for atleast 1 of the stations... which could be quite usefull for 5live sports extra.
all that would be needed on the channels occupied by the DAB stations is details of when to listen - and how to get DAB 24/7.
i think something like this needs to be done, because theyre ploughing alot of money into the new DAB stations, which are only available to a minute audience.
