I would, too - but it would further take us down the road of lampooning the thing.
Maybe we could have their commentary as an additional stream?
Paddy would be my first choice though.
For a bunch of reasons.

I personally think that Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish would be the best pair to host it. They'd keep the sense of humour, and I'd certainly watch.

To be fair Wogan said the same thing in the interview. If we send a well know and successful artist they have to vote for us.
Yep - but that isn't going to happen unless there is a radical change in the music industry's attitude to the contest. AIUI there has been no record company involvement in the British selection for quite a few years now... (And if record companies aren't involved - artists with a current recording deal aren't going to be involved...)
Wogan is part of that problem though, so him going can perhaps bring a new era to the show.
Someone joked about the "Eurovision Factor" earlier, but it's not actually a bad idea at all, and now the BBC have lost the FA Cup rights, they need something to fill Saturday nights during the Winter.
The selection process needs radically overhauling - the viewers are choosing crap entries because they're only given crap songs to choose out of, and there is far too much effort on trying to find a "Eurovision" song, when in reality the winners in recent times have been breaking out of the Eurovision mould.

It depends whether the Beeb want to continue presenting the event as 'tongue in cheek' or whether they take it all more seriously (at all levels).

Don't think they're BBC One faces/voices... BBC Three maybe... Not mainstream enough. Very entertaining for the younger end of the audience spectrum (teens to 30 somethings) - but Eurovision has a much wider appeal than that.

Paddy O'Connell and James Dagwell please, they KNOW the contest in depth and that's the essential thing for me.

Do you think? Ratings have been going up in the UK for the last few years, and in large chunks of Europe it is ridiculously popular still. Ratings aren't as good in the other Big Four countries as they once were - but the UK bucks that trend.
Terry is no doubt a big part of this - but do people JUST watch for Sir Tel? We'll find out I guess!

IMO losing Terry isn't much to get upset about. I didn't find him overly funny or witty or anything - it was just the same things mainly being said over again. The only reason will be sad/suprised is probably because he's seen as Eurovision in the UK. When someone says Eurovision to me I think cheesy songs, bad outfits and Terry Wogan!
Ratings may well go up this year but it will probaly just to see how the new person(s) handle it as we saw with the 10 O'Clock News when the BBC went on strike. Personally I'd like to see Paddy or James as someone said above but I remember Junior Eurovision on ITV a few years ago having a fairly good commentator - no idea who it was, though!

I think Junior Eurovision used Mark Durden-Smith and Tara Pama, Matt Brown and Michael Underwood, in the years it aired on ITV1 and ITV2, none of which would be suitable for the main role.

Anyone else surprised very few other sources have picked this "news". Looking back on the quote that starts this thread he never explicitly said that he's done, just "very doubtful". If he'd gone then surely at least the BBC News site would have picked it up (which it usually does with Radio Times stuff).
Not doubting it of course, and I may have missed all the reports, but just seems that it's not as definite as the thread title seems to make out.

According to ESC Today the BBC are looking for a new format and to have Graham Norton at the helm. Click here to view.

OK, if a new format goes ahead fair enough and I can stand Graham Norton presenting the UK National Final but I'm not in favour of him commentating. The only person I'd be happy with to replace Sir Terry is Ken Bruce.
