Does anyone know why Terresteral spin off channels like ITV2 start at differing times on different days?

I know ITV2 cannot start before 9.25 as GMTV2 has that spot, but why can't it start at 9.25am? They do at weekends but why not at weekdays?

At least BBC Choice now starts at a single time every day now it has CBBC on Choice from 6am - 7pm!

Perhaps it's because there isn't enough crap to fill up the space on weekdays. After all, they'd only show repeats of trisha

its interesting cos ITV have wanted an ITV2 for so long but when they get it they hardly use it at all!

ITV2 is badly utilised. They ought to use it to supplement the programming on ITV1. There is very little cross promotion between the 2 channels, I expect this will increase once ITV is branded ITV1. Once Coronation Street has finished on ITV1, they ought to run Soap Fever or Soap Secrets on ITV2 with an announcement on ITV1. This way they might inherit an audience from ITV1. Also say after the Bond Movie on ITV1, this could be followed up with a Documentary about James Bond on ITV2. Also once ITV2 finally makes it onto the Sky platform, I would be looking to run some news bulletins on there too. Maybe have news at 9pm and movies running afterwards. It is a waste to use ITV2 as the home of quick repeats.

Cross promotion depends on what ITV region you live in.

And their habbit (especially Who Wants To Be A Millionaire) of plugging the next show while on ITV. When the repeat is aired on ITV2 it's a waste of time Smile

personally i don't like cross promotion - esp since i don;t have digital (only analogue - and i'll be staying that way until the prices come down and they'll be giving them away - when digital becomes legislation in about 10 years). it happened today - i saw an advert for Big brother's little brother, looked good i thought, then after watching the entire thing, i found it was on E4. the same thing happens when i see interesting documentaries advertised, only to find they're on BBC Knowledge or something of that ilk. i think channels should only promote their analogue services, to give a thought to those of us with analogue (who grossly out number those with digital as far as the government stats are concerned!)

Do you mean the generic ITV end credits (like Corrie?) as what happens on ITV2 is that they get a clean version of the credits. Trouble is, the guys at ITV2 haven't yet worked out that a promo is meant to go in that gap.

What they do instead is to shrink the screen down and run its promo on the other side of the screen. Now you know how small the credits are anyway, but it gets ridiculous when ITV2 shrink it as well!

I'd guess that he means when Chris Tarrant actually tells us what's on next. Hopefully, the promos you mention Asa will be amended with the new look and will be consistent across the network.

But surely the promotion of digital channels on the analogue networks is intended to encourage digital take-up?

Yes there is a predicament here, either lot's of cross promotion and risk alienating the analogue audience or hardly any promotion and watch your new digital channels flop ! They have to strike a right balance, but as far as I'm concerned there isn't an awful lot at the moment. You hardly ever see any promotion of BBC Choice on BBC1, and I do think that they ought to show more ITV2 trailers on ITV1 and vice versa, but there seems little point with the current ITV2 programme line up. I guess the only digital service that gets a lot of promotion is News 24, at the end of every BBC1 news bulletin.

I've noticed a few more BBC Choice trails creeping on BBC1 and 2 analogue - I saw one for 60 Seconds after Dad's Army on BBC2 the other day. I bet when BBC3 and BBC4 start there'll be much more cross promotion.
