As a new member, I'd like to say how television nowadays has turn crap. I have created this thread so fellow members can post there memories of telly the way it used to be.
I, personally (judging by my name) want The Brian Conley Show to return!

In what way has television turned crap?
There is now more choice than ever before: about 5 different streams of Live 8 concerts, new breath-taking programmes such as Doctor Who, Little Britain, Big Brother and loads more...

Big Brother?! Now stop right there!
Despite what you may think, Big Brother is good television. It regularly draws in high ratings for Channel 4 and has been going for 6 years now. Just a shame it's been tarnished with the same brush as 'The Farm' and 'Celebrity Love Island'.
Yes Doctor Who is 40 years old now, but todays writers have given it something that it definitely didn't have in it's later years, and perhaps not even in any years. In that way i'd say it was very new and unique.
Depends what aspect of TV you think has turned crap...programmes on ITV (1, 2) for the most part don't interest me, every now and then there will be something good on a 9pm or thereabouts....
The BBC Channels aren't bad at all, IMO. BBC TWO and FOUR are the preferred channels for me.
If you're talking about idents, I would have to say that it looks as if the heyday as passed for idents' "golden era". Samey yet practically non-existant Regional ITV, loss of the long-serving familiar BBC ONE Globe, and the legendary 1990's 2's said farewell to be replaced by somewhat underwhelming versions.
The only plus-side could be (depending on your POV) that more 'personality' is included in idents such as for TWO and THREE. Channel Four benefitted from placing the familiar 'blocks' in a more real-world setting as parts of objects, yet BBC ONE have failed miserably by filming real-world locations full of people moving about....and red.
