Yeah, here in Hull, the BBC occupy the bottom two floors of a building called Queens Court. Of course, there's a BBC sign above the front entrance. The upper floors are residential. They don't have to own the building to have a sign up.

Ah, well in that case clearly even if the "overall building name" for TVC becomes something slightly/totally different after its sale, then there's no reason why "BBC" and/or "BBC Television Centre" signage can't still be at least *somewhere* on the exterior, then? (Even if smaller and/or in a different place from the current signage). Good to know. Cool

Worth noting that the BBC have only sold the leasehold on TVC and retain the freehold.

Really? Now that's very interesting.

Yep - I though that was interesting too. It seems to allow the BBC to control 'the direction' of development - though Stanhope apparently have an option to possibly buy the Freehold at a later date?

This makes sense. The BBC still needs a large studio for Strictly, election coverage, Children in Need, audience shows, and keeping part of TVC makes sense. Obviously the bulk of the building will be converted to other uses as the BBC no longer needs a building the same size as a city general hospital.

Would be nice if they could use some of the studios for production of movies and general shows.

Not sure I follow. Most of the studios at TV Centre are less suited to film (and single camera electronic) production than most sound stages - as they have lighting grids, sound areas, vision areas, galleries etc. that would be sitting their unused, which wouldn't be cost effective at all.

As for general shows? Not sure what you mean? TV Centre's studios are used for a lot of quiz shows, panel shows, the odd cookery show, consumer shows, entertainment shows etc. (for the BBC, ITV, Channel Four etc.)

It doesn't do much in the way of kids or sport since the BBC departments for these genres moved to Salford which has studio facilities close at hand (and ITV don't make much in the way of kids shows).
