I can't believe they're pinning their hopes on penthouses and visitors "making a weekend of it" and booking a stay in the hotel to see a BBC show, visit the restaurant (presumably a chain like Pizza Express) and maybe even visit Westfield.

This is precisely the same flop offering that is available at Media City. A deserted hotel, empty apartments and a nearby shopping centre that nobody in their right mind books a weekend's holiday to go and visit.

The bit about "gone are the queues outside the building for visitors" is a red herring - the queue will just move to outside the studio!

Another anti Media city post from you Rolling Eyes Didn't you also predict that the Blue Peter Garden would be broken into after 3 weeks as Salford was rough.
Get over it and stick with the facts, you must be thinking of another hotel too Wink

I can't see two small studios and one large one will meet the need of TV production. What is needed is at least two medium sized ones similar to 4 & 8. When Teddington closes there will be even less studio space. Its all a bit short sighted.

Why do those studios have to be in London? There are 3 InterCity rail services each hour to Manchester....

That's 20 years away.

Television will be dead by then.

Forget HS2. Virgin Trains operate 3x 9/11-car trains per hour now.

Because Salford & Glasgow are more or less at full capacity and there aren't any others. That comes from me who is based in the north. This is nothing to do with culture just practicality. I can produce a perfectly good studio based programme in Media city for the appropriate department but if the subject is based in London it makes sense to spend the money on screen and make it there rather than blow the budget on logistics.

Bring Leeds back in to use?

TLS and Wimbledon Studios are both below full capacity, and I'm sure there are other studios/stages that aren't being used.

What about the independent studios such as those in East Manchester and in Kearsley, Bolton and many others dotted around the country. How many studios will ITV have at MediaCity?

The apartments in Media City are largely empty, that is a fact. In fact they're trying to flog then by offering to pay half your mortgage deposit they're that desperate. The Holiday Inn is not doing a roaring trade either. There are never any lights on in the evening in any of the rooms. The only reason the Blue Peter garden hasn't been destroyed (yet) is because 1. it's a patio, not a garden and 2. it is patrolled by guards 24/7.
