It's a pity they didn't get there before most of the studio signs had been taken down, it's sometimes a bit confusing working out which studio you're about to 'walk' into to!

Tractor cam?!

And for tractor cam fans: a very important joystick...

I never realised that the N8 gallery was literally behind the studio.

You could see when they had the single presneter shot, in the old days when News 24 were in there in the china beidge area the gallery was to our right.

So what was the second vision mixer in N8's gallery for?

Possibly for the Barcos and projectors? It looks to be made by Pinnacle Systems, who I only thought did consumer video capture cards (with rubbish drivers!) rather than broadcast kit.

Don't think this has been posted. Video tour of the TVC CCA taken just weeks ago.

And then the second floor area with a look at what the second broom cupboard now looks like!

Oops, sorry probably should have posted these in the main BBC building thread.

I think that "second broomcupboard" would be the one that was provided as a back up to TC9 (and as somewhere for Nick Witchell/Noel Edmonds style emergency use) that was never used on air.

That second broomcupboard was officially known as Studio-P (for Presentation). I have heard it was used once on air by Noel apologising for the lack of a House Party for some reason but I haven't confirmed that and it may have been hearsay confused from the time he'd used the old 4th floor Broomcupboard proper. It had a single camera, a monitor stack and a desk with a small GVG vision mixer in it, which was supposed to have been used for the simpler CBBC links. There was a yellow/black CBBC backdrop installed so in theory it was the backup studio for TC9 though I'm not sure how many of us in the NTA could have got it working...! It was usually used by the announcers to record Learning Zone minidiscs ISTR.

It's a shame the camera didn't go through the VT booths into the machine rooms to the far left - that's where the MARC machines lived and a whole stack of D3 VTRs (there were two MARCs, one for each network, one called Doreen and the other called Bertha..!). There was also a further room of kit where the Laserdisc machines and clocks etc for the networks lived. I very much doubt any of it is left of course as I imagine the area was filled with coding kit when it stopped being used for presentation in early 2000.

On the far right of the area, through the crew room was a library where the Obit tapes lived ... oh and loads and loads of Schools fillers, Christmas Ceefax discs and other occasional treats Smile

I think you're right, I'm sure there was only one time he had to do that and here it is from the Broomcupboard we all know:

Out of interest, why was the House Party cancelled that week?

A bomb threat that massively disrupted preparations for the show during Saturday afternoon.
