Yes, there are plenty of really interesting bits in the Spur! (Not least The Filling Station, lampooned mercilessly on twitter)

Some more points of interest..

the former Blue Peter set, on display for tours in the Design Building's scene dock:

and round the other side, some CBeebies set:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps?ll=51.508976,-0.2267&spn=0.0043,0.009645&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=51.508965,-0.226636&panoid=Pt5jO2IneHk2o04SwngmFA&cbp=12,105.51,,0,16.12

the Pudsey Room: (just a big green room but CiN themed)
https://www.google.co.uk/maps?ll=51.509697,-0.226024&spn=0.0043,0.009645&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=51.509734,-0.225923&panoid=mwy697w7Wvh0jZCX64xWIA&cbp=12,325.42,,0,13.16

Self-portrait in a make-up room:

GMT and UTC side-by-side:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps?ll=51.509524,-0.22626&spn=0.0043,0.009613&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=51.509441,-0.226276&panoid=0PgA38Po5Ul-n23nUteLBA&cbp=12,40.54,,3,0.26

The blue 1U box here generated Pages from Ceefax for many years:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps?ll=51.509384,-0.226218&spn=0.0043,0.009613&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=51.509358,-0.226219&panoid=_XIIQsR8_ES0mfxn64ZY6g&cbp=12,296.4,,0,22.76
(it doesn't seem to have captured images very well below waist-level, so you can't make out the tag attached to its output which says the patch-cord is to be left there "till the end of time")

And did you try looking up in the CCA apps room? I think they gave up removing redundant cables about 15 years ago - putting in any new cable runs was always fun.

in the Weather Centre, I think you can just about make out the guy pushing the Street View trolley superimposed onto the weather map:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps?ll=51.509611,-0.226078&spn=0.0043,0.009613&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=51.509628,-0.226047&panoid=a4DBERZm60RYBRYgCKoc4w&cbp=12,316.83,,1,23.3

Can I just ask a silly question and sorry to be a pain.

How did they avoid having the creases in the green sheet appear on screen if it looked that bad?

By keying it heavily. It's the reason why the weather keys were always relatively poor.

It's a shame that they didn't do a bit more with this rather than just have the 'raw' footage for you to explore, the option of a virtual tour, being able to jump to specific places of interest or at least having a map of the building would have helped, I've just wandered through corridors not having a clue where I'm going.

Quote:
There's an Elonex 486 in one of the racks in CAA

Clocked the mentioned RM machine as well, based on the casing design it would have been a 486 or early Pentium, made 1995/96.

What did all these old PCs in racks actually do, and what would be the rationale for keeping such old kit in service other than 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'?. Even if it was a low horsepower task for which some old piece of crap was sufficient, surely you'd cascade down newer old machines which could at least have parts sourced for them if they broke down, rather than relying on a machine needing an AT power supply, PCI graphics card, SIMM memory, <8.4GB hard disk etc etc - none of which you can quickly source any more unless you have a parts bin of old components lying around.

Or were they favoured precisely because they are old and so, as AT-class machines if the power is interrupted they will start back up on their own rather than needing someone to turn them on again?

I spy the old Breakfast Sofa tucked away at the back of the TC7 storeroom

Maybe it's just me not noticing before but it seems they're still adding things. Little things like corridors and by the audience entrance then the TC7 gantry and being able to travel around TC5 a bit more too. Really hope we get a much bigger picture including the many galleries. So far only seen TC7 and a few news ones. They would have done others, surely?

Funny 'Staff exit' sign in TC5. Any modern meaning, or just a piece of nostalgia?
