Fascinating. What a stunning site White City was.
Why don't we do things like that any more?

No doubt Tony Robinson and the Time Team will be digging up the Blue Peter garden soon.

There is only one bit of the British Franco exhibition remaining and that is some floor tiles in the sheltered bit under the 'BBC Television Centre' sign.
Until a couple of years ago there was a long stretch of covered walkway from an arch next to Shepherds Bush tube across some wasteland but this was demolished to make way for the shopping centre development.
White City Stadium, which held the 1908 Olympics was on the site where BBC White City is now. There is a sign mentioning the fact along with a marking showing the finish line on the side of the Broadcast Centre (home of Red Bee)

Being old enough to remember when Blue Peter constructed their Italian Sunken Garden, I seem to recall that they uncovered several artifacts from the White City Exhibition at the time, and did a good little feature on it.

I think there's a feature about it in an old Blue Peter annual I have. It's the one with Simon Groom and Goldie the dog on the front.
I'd scan it, but it's somewhere in the loft of my parents' house about 200 miles away. Anyone else have it?

Technically the Olympic rings sign with the medal tally is not on the Broadcast Centre, it is on The Energy Centre (signed as The Green Room). This is a separate building joined to the Broadcast Centre - and is home to Top Gear (magazine and TV programme), The One Show (studio, gallery, edit suites and production offices) and the new Siemens Coding and Mux operation. They share a common reception with The Broadcast Centre, but the BC is the bit to the left of reception, the EC is the bit to the right. (But even the BBC don't realise this - as the EC isn't even an available London building option on most pull-downs on Gateway etc.)
The One Show have mentioned the finish line quite a few times, and often do exterior items close to it (as you can see it through their studio windows) The One Show studio is the windowed area next to the Olympic rings sign - and they've just put in a red and white "one" sign to re-inforce this.
