Yes it starred Paul O'Grady, Sheridan Smith, and that guy who is going to be in Mobile.
I'm not sure on studios, it was very big if that helps There was a door on the far left where i remember them coming out of, and exiting to. If i seen a picture of the studios id remember.
Didn't know about the WHSmiths, but it's been a little while since I ventured down there - the only shops I really knew about were the ones in the Media Village - Tesco's & Starbucks!
What amazes me is security is or was quite lacking at the main TV Centre (apart from inside the gates where the scanning systems are in place). There was one guy in a yellow jacket at the security gates and that was it. In fact when my sister and I saw Little Britain there in 2004 we nearly walked straight into the cast cafe at the front of the building. If we did it seemed nobody would batter an eyelid.
I'm not quite sure where you mean by the cast cafe - the audience holding area, aka the Foyer, contains a cafe/restaurant which is open to staff (and visitors) throughout the day; the ground floor also has a Costa Coffee and a tea bar.
Other things you might not expect to find at TV Centre: the Safety Equipment Stores, which sells hard hats and high vis vests and the like, and a takeaway van in the car park (variously referred to as the Death Van, the Muck Truck, or occasionally its real name, Snack Express) which does a mean bacon roll.
