Hi everyone,
I have regularly followed the comments and latest television news and graphics posted on this forum for the past couple of years, but never really had a reason to contribute myself until now.
I’m in the process of writing a dissertation on television branding and its future. I’ve received lots of feedback and information already and have interviewed the likes of Martin Lambie-Nairn, but I am especially interested in the opinions of the regulars on the TV Home Forum and your views on why the television ident has become such a phenomenon?
Why do you think television idents have become so popular and attract such public interest? Why do people care so much when they change? For example, the controversy when Lorraine Heggessy replaced the BBC1 globe with dancers. What is it above all other areas of design, that makes television identities so popular and encourage people like you and me to spend hours reading about them, setting up websites devoted to them, or just posting our views on them?
Also, when television moves to mostly on-demand, many predict that this will spell out the end for the ident as we’ve known it since 1982. What do you think? What do you think we replace them as broadcasters try to make sure their brand reaches the viewer?
If you have a minute, please vote for whose brand you believe is likely to be the most prominent in a time of on-demand television and programme libraries.
I’ve got my own opinions, but I’d really be interested to find out what you think. Any thoughts you have would be more than helpful.
Thanks,
Dan
