There was no need for that first statement but it would certainly reflect the regulatory stance of the day that any "adult" section on Oracle didn't survive beyond one night.
Who says it would be a regulatory stance that made it not return? They could have tried it and found it wasn't working on their accord or the ORACLE viewers returned to reading Barneys Bunch.

I will admit to having no personal recollection of Oracle's adult section, especially if it only lasted a night. Whenabouts did it air? Depending on the answer to that I consider my original comments about "regulatory stance" are fair comment - especially given the known differences in the approaches of both the IBA and the ITC. The latter would only have been regulating Oracle from 01/01/1991-31/12/1992 inclusive and I'm guessing Oracle's venture into adult services would more likely have taken place during this period. Then again it might not have.

I can't pin point the exact date other than it was around the time of 1989-1991. Certainly before the main ITV franchise round. I think it was part of the Live at Five section and aired on one Friday night after 9pm. I'm afraid thats all I can remember.

"Nottingham is a fine city with a fascinating history. It's well documented in official records that the city's original name was 'Snottingham', or 'Home of Snots', but when the Normans came, they couldn't pronounce the letter 'S', so decreed the town be called 'Nottingham' or the 'Home of Notts'. It's easy to understand why this change was resisted so fiercely by the people of Sc***horpe."
I wonder what other place names this site blocks, let's see
:
Cocks (Cornwall), t***t (Orkney/Shetland), Muff (Norn Iron), , Minge Lane (Worcs), ****terton (Dorset), Crapstone (Devon) and Old Sodbury (Glocs)
Derwent***er?
Or Devil's Arse Cave in Derbyshire... ironically "devil" is apparently the most taboo word in Norwegian?
The award surely has to go the town of ***** in Austria! Perhaps not surprisingly the signs for the village get stolen frequently.

Ha, now that would take some explaining!
The "Devil's Arse" cavern in Derbyshire allegedly gets its name because of the rumbling noise caused by the water inside it. I was down that way in the summer, visiting the collapsed road nearby at Mam Tor.
There's also the place called Folkingham in Lincolnshire, which is pronounced "F*ckingham".
I'm surprised Cockermouth hasn't fallen victim to the group's swear filters....

The Victorians were the ones who renamed it Peak Cavern IIRC. Great cave all the same. Shame they missed Merkins Avenue in West Dumbartonshire
There's actually a book called Rude Britain (publ Boxtree), which has a list of 100 such rude names in the UK-- I believe a sequel has been published for this Christmas. Keep an eye out for the review on Teletext..
