I only have a vague memory of the Knightmare teletext game but I am sure I didn't dream it. I think the top of the screen had very basic graphics with even more basic animation provided by the teletext 'blink' feature. Under the graphics was about half a (teletext) page of text giving the story. It would then give you options which you selected via the fasttext buttons. There wasn't necessarily 4 options though. There might have just been ' Go East' and 'Go West' for example.
The game was as basic as the graphics, if you made the wrong decision, you would be killed on the very next screen.
You see a table with a key, a loaf of bread, a spy glass and a bar of gold.
TAKE KEY> A monster says "Give me something to eat or I will eat you." You have nothing to offer. You die.
TAKE BREAD> A monster says "Give me something to eat or I will eat you." You have offer the bread. The monster lets you past.
TAKE SPY GLASS> A monster says "Give me something to eat or I will eat you." You have nothing to offer. You die.
TAKE GOLD> A monster says "Give me something to eat or I will eat you." You have nothing to offer. You die.

I remember Knightmare (despite it being less vivid in the memory than it was; I have not seen a repeat in ages) and can easily see how you'd only need text to pull off an interactive version.
But -- specifically, how did such a game work within the basic system of Teletext? Did you have 4 options, one assigned to each colour?
