Teletext on channel 100 will soon be available with pictures and sound from ITV, as requested by viewers apparantly. It seems that it will become 'Teletext on ITV'?...
Old ITV Digital boxes will not be able to view the service when the changes have taken place.
Go to page 104 on channel 100 on Freeview for more info.
Well text and picture at the same time is hardly new, as most old sets had the 'mix' function for analogue text. The difference now is its designed to actually be still readable, rather than than that 'replace black with the picture' hack implemented by the TV manufacturers in days gone by. =
Not a huge surprise - though they should make it something like "Press RED for ITV, GREEN for C4 (Yellow for Hols, Blue for Cars)".
There have been alot of changes to both Teletext on ITV and Teletext on 4 lately - with ITV now having the same content as the Teletext 100 page, and C4 having alot more content than previously. Teletext on ITV is now also available during GMTV.
The C4 programme pages though have been stripped back to the bare minimum - there are now about a dozen pages which you get to straight from p400 rather than all the sub-indexes. Thankfully though the full Big Brother service has returned on p444.
I think though it is now time to streamline the services a bit. I'd put Teletext on C4 from p140 on C4, move the Weather/Travel to p350 and then let C4 have a full sport service from p400 and the Entertainment and Lifestyle pages could be put in the 600s.

The difference was, you could choose whether to use it.
I would have thought the logical step would be to offer a choice of channel audio from the same Mux, retaining the full screen service. It could even default to ITV1 if it made them happy.
There's no reason why Teletext and BBCi can't offer a "hide TV" facility, option in the Fastext menu; then everyone would be happy.
I don't see what your problem is. Just look at the text, not the pictures. Or if it really bothers you that much, you could cut out a big piece of cardboard and blu-tack it to the screen to cover the TV picture.
