There's a nice `Farewell to Teletext` section now live on ITV Page 105.

It includes memories from staff who've worked on the service, highlights, a page from when Diana died, old page logos like `Planet Sound` - `Ace` - and `Sauce` -
It also features old characters like WLW and Bamber Boozle.

There's also a special edition of `Turner the Worm`

Glad I managed to catch this.. my analogue Teletext is turned off tonight at Winter Hill.

Same here, I thought I would have a good look through Teletext this afternoon and I've enjoyed reading the look back section, I forgot they used to have a kids section too, I remember using that from time to time when I was younger.

I can't believe we lose all Analogue Ceefax and Teletext from tonight, although I don't use the analogue versions it's nice to have them there as back up. End of an era indeed, feels like losing Oracle again. Laughing

Turner the Worm!! Used to read that all the time, it ran for years.

I remember the last ever strip being absolutely bizarre, they were halfway through a story and clearly had only just found out it was being axed, so you've got a normal strip as usual and then the last panel is someone saying "Sorry Turner, they've axed us so we'll never find out what happens. Bye!" to which Turner's like "Oh, ok...bye!". And then it ended. Confused

Interestingly the racing and bookies service will continue on C4 after Teletext closes, funded by the bookies presumably.

Teletext blaming their closure on not getting the spectrum space they need - yet another consequence of the Freeview HD bodge job. If it's a choice between Teletext and HD, I know which I choose.

Weirdly, there was an advert for Teletext on Channel 4 just before The Simpsons.

Yeah, I wonder how that's going to work then, especially in terms of license. The 'public teletext license' is effectively being given up and it shouldn't really come under the 'ancillary' text service that C4 can provide. I expect that it'll b supplied directly from whoever supplies it now

That's not the reason they gave when they announced the closure! Besides text takes up a tiny amount of space, infintessimal when compared with an HD channel

I found an image of Turner The Worm being sick on a final page of Digitiser closing down

Bamber Boozler is hosting a farewell quiz this Friday on Teletext! Shame really...after 17 years on Teletext, Bamber is being taken off air... Crying or Very sad ...and he hasn't aged a bit in this time either!

So when Teletext closes down in 2 weeks time, will we just get a black screen when we push our Text buttons on analogue? WHat's the betting that some other company will come along and provide analogue and digital text services before too long?

The racing is staying on channel 4 as are subtitles on all channels, I don't know if the 'ancillary' services for C4 and Five will continue. As for what's on page 100, I suspect theye might be some sort of holding page directing us to the services that are left

I doubt it, if the incumbent couldn't make it profitable then no-one else can. No-one is going to start a new analogue service now that 3 and a half regions have turned off their analogue

I would love to see this but updated for Teletext.

True but the problem is SD channels are having to be squeezed into the D3&4 mux (it's still only 8, but could rise to 10), so that's where Teletext would suffer.

Not quite sure what the situation is with space on Sky and Cable (is Teletext even on cable?), but interestingly the racing service on Sky will be "analogue" - I assume that's old fashioned Teletext!

I'm sure the Daily Mail would have had something to say about an image like that... if they didn't own the company! Laughing

But they wouldn't, they have 3% of the MUX so it's irrelevant what the other 97% contains.
