Is it OFCOM's intention to find a new licence holder then ?

They haven't ruled that out. The following is taken from the full ruling on the ofcom website:

Quote:
The degree of harm to consumers
9.25. The Committee considered that the revocation of the Licence, and the circumstances leading to revocation, has caused and continues to cause harm to consumers of this service generally. The cessation of the public teletext service means that the public purposes of the public teletext service are no longer being delivered, and in particular that the specified public service elements (news and regional information pages) are no longer available to consumers. This will continue to be the case unless and until a new public teletext service licence is awarded.

Although I would think it's highly unlikely. If Teletext couldn't make it pay then a new licensee wouldn't be able to, plus they'd be digital only and it's a license that was likely not to be renewed past 2014 anyway.

Last time I checked there was still Teletext on ITV and C4, but it had gone off air due to service revocation on Five. What's the situation now?

Is the holiday service still on analogue - surely it should be stripped away if they're not complying with the licence, and similarly and space on DTT gifted as part of DSO (though IIRC I think part of the issue was that come DSO they'd have to pay the going rate).

The licence should now be updated to reflect digital TV - ITV and C4 should be obliged to offer some alternative to the BBC, and Teletext shouldn't be permitted to use the "text" service on those channels to plug all it's commercial activities. I'm not expecting anything near the scale of what Teletext offered, but I think it's an idea to invite bids from interested parties and see what service could come out of that.

Given that they've had their licence revoked, any teletext services which are still on analogue or digital ITV or Channel 4 are technically illegal broadcasts.

Kind of although as discussed many pages ago they're piggy-backing on legal ones so it's not in the same league as, say, a pirate radio station.

Also as mentioned in the Ofcom document, they worked with Teletext to ensure that the technical infrastructure stayed up and running so not to jeopardise the TV network (and subititles), especially over Christmas. Although why they haven't reliably bypassed their kit by now I don't know... if they are still on air
