Well the theme of the idents is on a more global level in fairness. From the press release last March ~
The new channel idents explore the universal theme of rhythm, dance and movement through different activities, moods and world cultures. From the power and grace of a Brazilian dance to the raw energy of a festival, from the high elegance of ballet to the speed and agility of basketball players, the idents bring a new feel to BBC ONE.
But Scotland, NI and even Wales are part of world culture [stop laughing at the back there..], so I should imagine they ought to be represented especially as, let's face it, apart from some strong aerials on the continent, BBC ONE is only watched by British viewers, it could be construed as a little bit 'distancing' to have the main BBC channel represented by dances not ever seen before by people [how many people had seen capoeira perfomed before 29/03/02?], or dances that have no relevance to them [haka, anyone?]. There are, of course, generic dances -- ballet, wheelchair dancing, festival dancing, and kiddies random running-dancing..
But then, morris dancing and Welsh St David's Day dancers would absolutely horrify me. Perhaps British dances have been excluded for a purpose..?

This year artists, dancers and performers from many corners of the world will meet in the Regency seaside town of Sidmouth as over 65,000 people visit the Festival and take part in this unique event
From the Sidmouth Festival website.
Most of these visitors will see at least one Morris Side.
I know most people laugh at Morris dancing, but more people see Morris in one year than had probably heard of capoeira before 2002.
And if you think Morris dancing is for old men, try a workshop at your local folk festival. I did once, and my legs ached for 3 days....
On the subject of the new BBC ONE Tango Ident, I quite like it, except for the start of it which just seems strange. I can't work out why, they're just all crowded together and, well, just looks weird. :p
I completely disagree - Tango is by far the worst of the set (closely followed by Festival/rock concert or whatever it's called). It's uninspiring, the music is lack-lustre and WHY ARE THEY IN THE RAIN???????

Well - good to see that the British Broadcasting Corporation is still doing its best to avoid having anything
British
in its idents.
The Tango - in a Spanish setting, Bollywood dancers etc...
Perhaps they should bring back a globe with just the British Isles on it?

The globe was fine, it was truly inclusive. It's the total excluding of "Britishness" from the idents that I object to.

Actually, I though Bollywood was brilliant until I saw Tango! Tango is by far the best, and the music is really full of life and exciting!
As for being more Britain centered, Morris Dancers?! I mean - how cheesy! (Even cheesier than Music Video!)
