How can you say that breakfast television comebacks don't work? We've never had a show return before. Also, the feelings towards RI:SE are mostly bad, so an old favourite would be very welcome.

But if it came back it wouldn't be the same programme. The production team is long disbanded, the location it was filmed in is unavailiable and the momentum for the programme has been lost.

You can't re-create the chemistry and feel for a programme like that once it has all gone.

Nah, the momentum for the programme was lost even when they had the crew and the house. If the BB returned, it would have to be a slightly different programme. I think they should start from scratch - new house, new crew etc.

RI:SE has been threatening with the axe since May 2002 so to get this far I think it has done very well.

RI:SE mk 1 was very good indeed, it was new, freash and upbeat it really showed how old and "out of tune" the big breakfast was. I think there were a number of reasons why RI:SE mk1 wasn’t a hit.

1.) Sky played to much of a part on the programe and made it look and at times feel like SKYNEWS.

2.) To many unknown faces the only people I had herd of were Edith and Kirsty.

3.) Channel 4 panicked to early and the show started to do silly things like "Search for a nobody".

4.) Advertisement was bad before the show started yes they were on all the time but they didn’t explain the show they should have used the ads of the presenters that they use in the summer.

At first I hated RI:SE mk2 mainly because I t was like the big breakfast and I didn’t really like that show. But after watching it when Edith left and Kate join, it was a really good show and Iain Lee is one of the funniest men alive.

Well I think Iain and Kate constantly shouting at the telly is just too much for some people and they turn over, and the show focused way too much on the reality TV ****, really c'mon RI:SE was SH:IT from start to finish!

That is when I started to hate ri:se it was watchable, but when they started to overdo the reality tv. A quick summary with iain and kate, did you see ... last night, etc. I never understood why they never used the shopping centre more. Plus they could have done cooking items and played games with guests in the massive space they have, but they didnt!

Thats why I went off it, it didnt seem to have any creativity within it. The ste never changed, not even slightly. The presenters were put in with guests and then talked. Thats all they did.

A bit like how Rise mk2 has turned out then?

Re. your point about how two programs would confuse the audience at breakfast time, yet is fine at tea time. Would you care to elaborate on why you believe this to be true?

No, there is big difference between RI:SE and The BB.

I don't know if I can put my thoughts on this into words, but here goes....

The vast majority of viewers don't settle down in front of the telly first thing in the morning and flick through their TV guide to decide what to watch. They get up and ready for work/school/college, and put the TV on to watch whatever their favourite breakfast show is offering.

One family might turn the TV on at 7:30 and watch RI:SE over breakfast for 15 minutes, whereas another may get up slightly later and watch it at 8:20.

A two hour show provides the opportunity for viewers to (and I hate this phrase) "dip in" and "dip out" of the programme. Nobody has to think "well I don't like the programme which is on at 7:00, so I'll wait until the other programme starts in an hour or so.

The two hour programme has a familiar consistant format which viewers can watch at the touch of a button.

By offering two separate programmes, the channel would be saying "if you want to watch this programme, you'll have to tune in at this time, but if you prefer the other one you'll have to change your morning routine and tune in at another time". Viewers won't do that early in the morning. They'll cancel Yoga so that they can watch Casualty, they'll try and get home early to catch Neighbours, but breakfast television cannot dicate their routine in this way.

which is why it was beaten by Clifford The Big Red Dog? There was a reason why less people watched the 1st verison and that is because it was badly executed and a bit of a mish mash of ideas. The newer ones are much better as they are simpler and less repetitive. RI:SE 1 only had about two mins of content that was repeated constantly - now the show is much easier to watch the whole way through.

I must inform the right honourable gentleman that he is incorrect, and I shall be keeping the aforementioned Lady Godiva. And I have photographic evidence to prove I am in no way related to Mr Luxton, although he does live in an area of England I visit often (and he's never invited me round for tea and scones!)

As Channel 4 are able to run programming all through the early hours without resorting to Nightscreen or Teletext Pages, then I can't see them doing that in the 6-9am slot. Can you ?

OK then, seeing as we're approaching Channel 4's 21st Birthday, maybe we could have a throwback to the days when they only broadcast for a few hours each day - and have.... this:

It's better than nothing, and might look rather good in 16:9!
