Interesting to see that the majority of that was made up from the Channel 4 produced and live years, and that there's been nothing worth putting in after Vernon left.
It's nice to see some of the very early years in the basement set, it's as though that era had been forgotten, in a way it's a shame that the lovely launch graphics were lost to the stripes, but then again that's what most people will remember as the start of T4.
I think it really got going when Dermot replace Ben. It's a shame though Margarita Taylor seems to have been forgotten in TV land at least - I think she's still around on commercial radio, but TV wise she's not really done anything high profile since T4. I don't even recall her leaving it - certainly don't think she got the send off Dermot did.
She's still at Capital she usually does the mid-morning to afternoon shift. I remember back in 2003-ish she did do some presenting work on ITV London programmes I believe it was a property show.
A good show today with plenty of classic clips and ripping the piss out of themselves. Forgotten how good too the graphics were when they first started too.
And whatever happened to Fran Lee - I guess she got dropped when they stopped the early morning shift.

I agree, the clips were good, and quite a bit from the first year. Nice to see all of the presenters recording a bit, and interesting to hear that Dermot regretted not staying on for another year. I can't believe that Vernon and June did 6 & 7 years respectively, where as Ben & Dermot each did 2. There was just something very basic about the early years. When looking at the clips, the launch was great with polished graphics, the logo everywhere, etc. and then when they relaunched everything went basic, the graphics, the set elements, etc. and it worked.
As for Fran Lee, I presume it was for the reason that you stated that when it went to starting at 10am that she was dropped. As I've said before I tried to wake up to see the launch of T4, but it was something stupid like 5.30am if I remember (I'm not sure that Fran was on from that time). I wonder why they didn't keep Fran on and rename the early younger slot, or maybe they didn't think it was necessary. Then again the dark set, etc. didn't seem very CBeebies as it were.
I did like the dark basement early days with a clip board, live links, every link wanting you to get in touch, even down to the stings into ads followed by the 'NEXT', etc. and random guests popping in, but the only problem with that era as Ben said "How can you be cool, and introduce the waltons?".
I'm sure the schedule had Bigger Breakfast type programmes such as Johnny Bravo and Sister Sister, then the Waltons before Hollyoaks.
The only thing about today is that the interviews were some tongue in cheek and others serious, and I didn't know what to make of some comments.
I even liked the countdown of programmes, though a shame that they couldn't have done a best of T4 over the years, and feature the programmes, though it would have been a hell of a lot of rights issues to get around for one day.

I remember back when it launched, there were several promotions leading up to it which stick in my mind featuring someone painting the T4 logo onto their nails. It went on air, like you say at about 5.30am but it was voiced by the regular announcers at first. When it all relaunched the early morning bit did kind of have its own branding with the T4 alien and kids doing the actually announcements.

Yeah, they rehashed so that the space character still featured but had the lines in the background, and the boxed 4 logo, at least they saved some of those graphics, though the children doing those announcements were irritating, especially if you left the TV on and fell asleep to be woken up by them screaming "YOU'RE WATCHING 4!!!".
Broadcast reporting that Princess Productions have won the tender to produce the strand, snatching it from Eyeworks and in the process saving C4 a couple of million a year.
However, the tender stipulates the current presenting team and set will stay in place, so I'm not sure they'll be a huge difference to what we see on screen - though I imagine the show will venture out of the studio less often.

I can understand about them keeping the talent, but I wonder why they've got to keep the set, it's still not really grown on me that much. Though I was thinking watching the birthday celebrations about the current T4 logo. As it was brought in during Eyeworks controlling the T4 strand, was it eyeworks that commissioned it, or was it a Channel 4 thing that they had put into place.
In keeping the set, I wonder if they could just place it into their studio with the windows behind the T4 set backing.
I presume that links won't be live as Something for the Weekend uses the studio on a Sunday, presuming that they will use their studio fascilities, though that's the impression that I get from the article in respect to it being cheaper.
Part of me does wonder how the turnaround for the set and the storage of sets works in their studio. From when they first moved in and RI:SE used it, it seemed big, but not massive considering that they have...
The Wright Stuff, Something For The Weekend, The TV Show, It Pays To Watch (I think these use the studio, even though it isn't a princess production), and now T4.
In a way I'd like T4 to take on more of a Something For The Weekend feel, and I could see that working, just by airing programmes where SFTW airs the clips. Even though it most probably won't be live, it would be nice if it were recorded as live, as I feel that T4 lacks atmosphere at the moment, and I don't know why.
EDIT: A brief spark when posting; if T4 are saving money because Princess Productions have their own studio, wouldn't it be the same if they presented the links from around the Channel 4 building again, even if they didn't use the canteen (was it the canteen that was turned into a studio every weekend?). I did like the way that they would simply plonk a couple of chairs in the reception and do a link. In a similar way to 'FRONTAL', a late night Channel 4 show from a few years ago that did the same.
And I presume in the article that Channel 4's Sunday Night Live is the Sunday Night Project, even though it took me a bit of thinking to get there.

I would imagine the logo was commissioned and is owned by C4 rather than Eyeworks - though whether that extents to how the logo is seen on screen or not I wouldn't be sure.
