Since when were Airwolf and Knight Rider exclusively for children?
My dad thinks Knight Rider is a children's show because I've watched it since I was a child. If KR had been made
specifically for children's viewing, then KITT would have probably been a talking cat, rather than a talking car!

Anyone who thinks Knight Rider and Airwolf were challenging quality adult drama obviously sets their intellectual aspirations very low!
I think Brekkie Boy hit a hammer on the nail there, I admit not all regional programmes were good, but they were different from today's "standard" stuff.

Not all programmes aimed at adults have to be intellectually challenging. People can relax in front of the telly once in a while I still don't think you can say either show was aimed at kids rather than adults..
Wasn't the whole intire point of ITV 2 provide independent competition to the BBC, and to encourage regional competition? Otherwise the INdepentant Television Authority would have made a national contract.
The point of ITV was to provide competition for the BBC
However, the regional structure was created because there was only 1 commercial broadcasting channel and wanted to provide internal competition as well. One big company for the whole country would have been too big and powerful - remember that there were a lot less places to buy advertising then
Of course these days there is a lot more competition so one big ITV company isn't so dominant as it would have been in the 1950's-1990's
While the like of Knight Rider, and other action adventure shows of that era weren't aimed specifically at kids, they
certainly weren't aimed specifically at adults either. Programs like that were designed for both adults and kids to
enjoy in equal measure. They were always mostly light hearted family entertainment. Any violent content was
usually rather mild and infrequent, and was never explicitly or excessively graphic.
Meanwhile, with the debate about whether certain shows are made for kids or adults, or both the same debate
can apply to "The Simpsons". My dad considers that a kids show, solely because it's a cartoon series, and
he thinks that all cartoons are made only for children. He hasn't seen any episodes of cartoon shows that
are far from suitable for kids, such as the likes of "South Park" and "Beavis and Butthead" . . . !
With reference to some of the content in episodes of Knight Rider, some of the season 4 episodes did adopt
a slightly darker edge (and were occasionally quite serious) than most episodes from the first 3 seasons.
Episodes such as "Deadly Knightshade" and "The Scent Of Roses" were good examples of that.
"STV, idents look muchbetter than those very european yellow ones of ITV "
Um....you live in Europe......
I think what he was refering to was that European TV-Pres. is actually quite different looking to British TV presentation and the ITV logos and idents do not follow the "traditional" british feel and look. It might not make snese but if you lived here in the UK (particularly in Scotland) and watched STV day in and day out and seen them in action, then watched the ITV plc/UTV/Channel idents then you'd realise that they have more in common with a German, French or Dutch tv network rather than anything in common with anything else in the UK/Eire/America.
People here seem to look back in rose-tinted spectacles and think that their ITV regions screen quality programmes!
Well it all depends on what region - some did screen rubbish
If you lived in the Border TV region, screening rubbish was its speciality. No wonder it got the nickname of, and was sent up on End of Part One as, Boredom Television....

Boredom has inproved since PLCisation.
BTW, where is Border? I was in Carlisle city centre the other day and could find no sign of it. Is it on an industrial estate somewhere?
I suppose Newcastle was spoit with Tyne Tees having such a good location
