First, I live in Istanbul, Turkey and subscribe to 2
different networks. KabloNet is an analogue service
which gives me access to 888 subtitles on BBC Prime.

I also subscribe to a digital network (Digiturk) which
doesn't supply a subtitle facility, but the quality of
picture and sound is much better.

I have found that it is possible to see the Kablonet
subtitles while watching the Digiturk picture.

This is great! However there is one problem, which I
think it should be possible to solve. The subtitles
appear at the top of the page and slowly scroll around
the page horizontally.

If you come up with a trick which enables me to control the position of the
subtitles on the screen I'd be really grateful.

Two further points:
1. Digiturk uses a SCART connection to the TV
2. Kablonet (subtitles) uses the normal aerial
connection.

I *think* I understand what's going on here. But I don't think there is a solution.

The reason the subtitles move around the screen is because there is no sync lock on the analogue channel you're tuned to - the tv is synched to the digital scart input. I'm surprised the subtitles come through at all but I can't think of any way to solve your problem other than to ask your digital service provider to add subtitles to the service. That's obviously the best long term solution.

Mark.

Hi there Andy!

I live in Ankara, and I know what you're going through - I too am a Kablonet and a DigiTurk subscriber, and I know how difficult it is to sacrifice the glories of 888 subtitling in favour of a clear picture and sound! But I'm quite surprised that you managed to get the analogue subtitles onto your digital BBC Prime feed at all.

However, as far as I am aware it's simply not possible to do. BBC Prime does not run a digital teletext service, and when I e-mailed them on the subject they said there were no plans to introduce one. The thing with digital BBC Prime is that - as far as I know - it's just the analogue service converted into digital. It's not a seperate service like digital BBC One or Two in the UK, and as such doesn't come with subtitles either.

I'm afraid you will have to resort to the Kablonet service if you need subtitles . The picture shouldn't be that bad though; if it was, the teletext/subtitles would become too scrambled to read.
