Presumably they would if they thought they'd get a return on their investment.
Matt and Susanna would make a lot of sense - if they're spending £1m on Susanna they're not going to splash out too much on a male host too.

What do you base that on? As far as I see, the only solid fact available is that the programme they left is just as, if not MORE popular than when they hosted. And that's without any change in format. Not even the set or graphics were refreshed.
Aside from that, the impression I got from talking to people and Twitter was that there wasn't an opinion on them either way and they certainly weren't heralded as a golden couple of television until ITV poached them. Even then, I don't think the public bought it. In fact they obviously didn't judging by the ratings.
Despite all the hoo-hah made about their 'chemistry', the role of One Show hosts is a glorified regional news announcer linking between various items. The ability to follow a script is all that is required, and as long as the items are engaging, the audience will be engaged.
And as for the press manipulating public opinion, if a personality has warmth and likability, the odds are the public will stick with them, no matter how they're 'moulded' by the media. Christine had neither.

Deluded central, they were very hugely popular until their move to ITV.

Are you not embarrassed to have posted that?
Do you actually know anything about news audience profiles? I imagine that target audience would be consist of 6 internet perverts.
I'm embarrassed for you for spitting out your dummy.
So you're telling me Susanna Reid has no male interest at all? American networks are full of Reid clones on their morning shows where wearing certain outfits is part and parcel of getting the viewers in. The fact the Daily Mail and the red tops are fawning over Reid's move and previously on Strictly is a few more people than the "six internet perverts" you claim are her fanbase.
As for Chiles and Blakeley, The One Show survives without them. The BBC soon realised all you need is two average bland presenters to interview guests and introduce the packages. When Baker and Jones finally go, they'll find another generic duo and hey presto, this is the same for BBC Breakfast. Louise Minchin will become the main female presenter and the audience share will carry on before regardless of the £1m spent on Susanna Reid.

Is Susanna actually worth £1 million? I'm not questioning her ability but I've watched her a few times on Breakfast and didn't find her that attention grabbing really. To me she seems to come across quite smarmy at times and boring to watch...

Who's job is it to confirm smarmyness levels?
its only recently she's been more smarmy though it has to be said since Strictly anyway has this even been confirmed because i dont think it has officially.

ha ha no one's its just an opinion I hope she dosent go to ITV, but the constant commuting must be playing on her mind and i would be tempted... i am only saying this as she's tried in recent times strictly come dancing, sarah milligan's show, hacker time and Gabby's Logan's I Love My Country so she clearly wants to be more famous, so she see's ITV as a good opportunity to help her achieve this.
But weve seen this with Christine Bleakley and she virtually has no career now.

The thing with Christine though is what would she be doing had she remained at the BBC - at best she might have got The Voice and possible Let's Dance for Comic Relief, but chances are any attempts to do something other than The One Show would have suffered a similar fate to her roles on ITV.
Whether she'd be happy if she was still fronting The One Show depends on what her own ambitions are, and had she stuck with it for a couple more years I'm not sure her career would be in any better position than it is now. Chances are too that assuming Daybreak would still have struggled from the off a year later they'd have assumed bringing Christine in to join Adrian was the solution and she'd have probably left at some point anyway.
I can completely understand Susanna's motives for leaving - both personal and career. If reports are to be believed she's made enquiries about other possible projects within the BBC and they haven't got anything to offer her, so ignoring the money, the location and the breakfast gig if ITV are offering the chance to front other shows that is very tempting. Even if they flop for someone in Susanna's position getting the experience of fronting shows away from breakfast TV in the long run will only be beneficial.
What ITV and Susanna need to decide is whether she's a journalist or a presenter. There are some shows which can bridge the divide - game shows are fairly safe territory for newsreaders - but personally I think rather than finding Saturday night formats for her ITV's best bet is using her for shows in the vein of Tonight and the various "regional" documentaries they air now in the Corrie sandwich.

Didnt Christine present a series in that slot recently?
