They should have picked a better presenter Rylan ain’t no Dale Winton.
He's camp and he has a radio show... How close to Dale Winton do you want to get?
The only other real contender would be Israeli Dale Winton. But I’ve no idea if he’s still alive or if he’d be interested in coming to the UK to present an ITV 2 reboot of a popular gameshow.
Great to see yet more old game shows making their return to tv channels (i guess itv finally realises their newer game shows are less than stellar, or even remotely interesting, with only tipping point and the chase seemingly being popular enough for viewers to warrant continual broadcasting). I just cannot comprehend the point of putting this type of game show onto ITV2 though, this would fit nicely on ITV1 in any slot, even if it replaced The Chase and/or Tipping Point
I would almost have expected this to be more suited for ITV on Saturdays at 7:30pm or something similar.
I don't think it should be forgotten that Supermarket Sweep is actually utterly crap and the last run got pulled on ITV with a few weeks episodes only getting an airing on Challenge.
Suspect this will play out at 6pm or 7pm on ITV2 and pretty much be forgotten about after one run.
Does the constant trend of rehashing old shows not prove that we are now completely out of new ideas?
Or does the fact that ITV's ad revenues are going down again (7% fall up to the end of March this year) make them think that they can cash in on the trend for "nostalgia" or retro things?
Stranger Things is a major original success for Netflix, winning no end of acclaim, rewards, support, praise and is generally regarded as one of the best TV programmes ever made. But would it have been anywhere near as successful if it had been on a more mainstream network?
