Not sure about ex TVAM but certainly ex American Football. He was the presenter of C4's coverage of the NFL until they gave it up after the 1998 Superbowl. Always used to enjoy his slightly tongue in cheek comments during the coverage. He was also part of the C4 team that coverered the Tour de France (usually providing reports on local points of interest they were riding past, again with tongue in cheek comments) until Channel 4 dropped coverage after 2000.
I've also seen him mentioned as executive producer of Paralympics coverage- I seem to remember seeing him eollect an award (a BAFTA maybe?) for it.
For me Gary Imlach, is part of *the* team for coverage of the Tour de France, along with the unbeatable commentry duo of Phil Ligget and Paul Sherwin. The only reason ITV's coverage of the tour de france has been any good is because its used the same production company and on screen team that the C4 coverage used. The hour long highlights of each stage are very well done, and an excellent way to follow the race.
