What the.......a repeat of Cash in the Attic, a repeat of Diagnosis Murder, a repeat of Eastenders........

Sport...... F1 followed by a repeat of X Factor......

Stargate and Star Trek.......
Naff "TV Movie" action movies......

What happened to Sunday afternoon entertainment? I can't understand why no effort is made for Sunday post lunch programming. I mean, an hour of Cash in the Attic. What is it about the BBC's obsession with this bloody programme?

Sunday afternoon telly has always been cr@p, there was a bit of light relief towards the end when Bullseye was on as we knew that was what Sundays were made for but I don't recall anything worth watching on a Sunday during the 90's unless it was on CBBC2 in the mornings when they would repeat very old Grange Hill, Simon and the Witch etc.

I don't quite get why so little effort is made on Sunday television. During the afternoon programming is dominated by either sport or extremely cheap entertainment programming, normally repeats. At night there's no point in even looking if you're under the age of 50.

It makes even less sense nowadays - young people, presumably ITV's core audience, are out on Friday and Saturday nights, so you would think Sunday would be the day to catch them. Instead there's a real bid to catch younger people on Saturday nights, when they're all out on the town.

Isn't that one of the reasons why X Factor is now repeated on a Sunday afternoon.

Look at five's schedule as well! Non-stop films from about noon until midnight. Shocked

AIUI they usually repeat The X Factor on a Sunday morning at 10.00am/11.00am, but they haven't today as GMTV came on air 8.05am due to the Grand Prix, which lasted until 11.30am, which by that time Politics usually comes into the schedule, then a repeat of the F1, so The X Factor has been pushed back to teatime.

Who remembers the old days? Bullseye, Highway, Catchphrase, Surprise Surprise always used to mean Sunday nights, now it has become just another night of the week on TV.

Can't remember the last time I watched terrestrial TV on a Sunday. If I'm in I'll stick Sky Sports 1 on and watch the football for most of the day.

But all those shows were still gentle entertainment, which is what Sunday Nights are all about. Could you honeslty expect The X Factor to go out on a sunday night? That's where Heartbeat, Corrie, and a good 9pm drama go.

Well Sunday afternoon tv has always been a bit rubbish. Of course a few years back the regions could put what they wanted on a Sunday afternoon on ITV.

I agree that Sunday night tv has just become like another weeknight, with soaps and dramas.

I think your contradicting yourself with the title - didn't it used to be the case that as you get old, you enjoy Sunday afternoon TV.

It is awful though - it all depends on what is on Grandstand!

And the thing with ITV is they've axed alot of the output that used to fill the Sunday schedules (regional programmes, religious programming, Soccer Sunday etc) - but found nothing worthwhile to replace them with!

I like your comment about insinuating that as you get old, Sunday TV becomes more appealing! It made me chuckle. I would enjoy it more if there was more programming alternatives. for instance, the BBC's archives are heaving with old programmes yet they stick on the same limited amount of shows. Here's what I would do on Sundays:

12.00 The Politics Show
1.00 EastEnders
2.50 Keeping Up Appearances
3.20 The Disney Family Movie
4.50 teatime Drama serial (like the old days of "Narnia" and such like)
5.20 Points of View
5.35 Songs of Praise
6.15 BBC News, Weather

(Why the hell the Sunday news is scheduled at 7.35pm now and then two hours later at ten is beyond me!)

6.40 Antiques Roadshow
7.30 Rolf On Art/Last of the Summer Wine or similar
8.00 Monarch of the Glen or similar
9.00 Waking the Dead or Similar
10.00 BBC News, Weather
10.15 Comedy Connections/Drama Connections
10.45 Medium (US supernatural drama series)
11.30 The Sunday Late Film
1.00 (or whenever) NEWS 24

Panorama would be moved to an hourly regular slot of Wednesday at 9pm.
