It is worth noting since The Bill went ITV have been back to having two weeknight dramas at 9pm (usually Mon/Thu) - and unlike recent years this year they've pretty much all been successful and are all in with a shot of returning.

The Bill was successful, untile ITV instructed Fremantle to have a format relaunch.

I agree with this. I don't stand by the whole "axed due to low ratings" business entirely. ITV helped kill off The Bill deliberately.

I found that the most recent Bill revamp led to some of the best episodes in a while!

I think the only way The Bill could be brought back, is to bring it back as a 10-part-series, or something similar. Any thoughts on a series fomat, rather than a continuing drama?

Interesting, watched an episode of the Paul O'grady chat show last night on Youtube. Lisa was his guest, and she indicated that perhaps if enough people made a noise, there would be a chance that The Bill would be brought back?

I'm surprised that the Beeb or even Channel 5 didn't buy The Bill. An on going, well selling programme around the world (particularly Australia and Canada) yet one destroyed by people who couldn't understand what it was - is it a police procedural? (It was), or is it a Soap Opera? (which it wasn't intended to be.)

Slightly off-topic, I don't know if this has been mentioned; but ITV doesn't want Taggart now, which has left STV in the lurch-- especially since it sells well globally also. I wonder if STV will manage to get Five or the Beeb to buy it?

Five was in the frame to buy The Bill a couple of years ago, that must have either fallen flat-- or have been a rumour.

I think it was rumour, a number of The Bill videos [including my own] were removed from youtube by "Channel Five Television"

This was because (then) owners of C5 were owners of TalkbackTHAMES/Fremantle and youtube made a mistake.

Not really on-topic, but might be of interest to fans of the (old) Bill:
