Been meaning to post this for a while, but now the forum is about to close, I felt I ought to do it otherwise I'll be questioning it forever.

A while ago I was capturing some VHS tapes to put onto DVD and I came across some recordings of Worzel Gummidge Down Under that had been recorded. In between a couple of episodes are a couple of short links from a clearly low-budget kids programme called 'Summer Breakout'. This is all I've found, so have no idea on names or can't remember any other kids shows that were shown either at the time.

I would guess from memory that this would have been about 1996-1997 time but I could be wrong. I can remember though that ran for a few weeks during the Summer holidays on Anglia, but it seems strange to me not to use the usual CiTV branding. I can't find anything about it online, so was it just a local thing for Anglia? Did it air in other regions? Were there other shows like this around the same time?

It's certainly an intriguing mystery!

Worzel Gummidge Down Under was the continuation of of the original Worzel Gummidge series. Down Under first aired (it says here) in 1987 and it ran for two series. Not impossible it would still be on air in 1997 (after all, Round The Twist was still on air on CBBC into the "yellow" era, and RTT at that point had finished in 1993, it wouldn't return for what was then its third series in 2000).

Think that Walkers logo ran 1994-1998, possibly a "tweak" on an earlier variation.

I remember this, because I was on holiday in Bournemouth in 1996 and it was on Meridian, where I was a bit interested to see it. As far as I know it was a Meridian production, though it's not a surprise that it was on Anglia as well because Meridian had taken over Anglia at the time and their schedules were quite similar (not sure if it was on HTV as well).

In those days there weren't networked kids holiday shows under the Children's ITV banner, there were earlier in the nineties but it had rather petered out by that point. Most regions usually showed a film in the This Morning slot and the odd cartoon (I seem to remember a run of James Bond Jr) which I think was pretty much networked, but there was seemingly the opportunity for the regions to opt out and seemingly Meridian and Anglia decided to in 1996, creating this brand for summer mornings. I wonder if it was a bit of a trial run for them making most of the kids' shows on Channel 5 when that started the following year.

Unfortunately on holiday we actually had to go out and do things so I couldn't watch much of it, just the odd junction. But yeah, it certainly happened.
