That means the current STV graphics are also slightly disappointing... that is the same promo used by STV for films but in colour blue.

Dipped in last night to Fair City it is fairly diabolical acting wise. It seems extremely low budget. When you compare to say River City which won't have a mass budget... I don't watch the latter much - however it feels far more a slick output etc. This seemed a bit wobbly production wise.
Full hog product placement too with the Spar shop inside & out!
Also should be noted that they had like a 'welcome' episode with basically a potted history on Monday night... Then episodes kicked in proper are 2.5ish years behind. Dec 24th 2014.

Fair City is produced by RTÉ so I imagine it's not extremely low budget, but probably keeps costs down as much as they can. It is after all, a primetime show in Ireland.

It costs about 55,000 euro an episode (about 11 million a year) and it's pretty poor value for that. However, it does have a large audience which I suspect a lot of are the 10% in the republic that don't get UK stations. There are three soaps I can think of that are made In Ireland, Ros na Run on TG4, Red Rock on TV3 and Fair City and it's Fair City that's the cheapest looking by a mile. But then again I'm not a soap fan.
Soaps do build audiences especially when the audience can relate to the Soap but could they not have gone for something Australian or Shortland Street from New Zealand? Shortland Street is Shown on RTE 1 at midday and allegedly does well for the timeslot.

Scottish TV never really did that well with the ozzy soaps to begin with, At least it finished Prisoner, I dare say by death sqaurd if it didn't. It never touch The young doctors nor Shortland Street. Its treatment of the other three soaps were questionable at best.
Give it four years, which I think will be the point it will catch up with Ireland and I think there will drop the soap. Remember STV already has a soap High road and that been dumped to Saturday mornings.
Those Classic movies are a joke, Today it was a Song is born and I thought Im looking at a scene from the same film as yesterday but in colour.... turns out it was.. IE the oringaly Ball of Fire. Talk about pushing the boat out..

.
The producers of "Republic of Telly" got a lot of mileage out of out of context Fair City clips over the years!
UTV aired it at one stage in the 1990s in an early afternoon slot. Not sure if any other ITV region picked it up at the time.
