Even more confusing - look at the map which shows coverage right down to the border... until you click on the macro-regions!

The basic rule for the local opts will be...

Craigkelly and dependents get the Edinburgh opts.

Angus and dependents get the Dundee opts.

Everyone else will get the full Glasgow or Aberdeen programme.

Quite where the postcode boundaries lie on Sky or exactly how STV will define the editorial areas of each patch is another matter. And Falkirk has always been in a tricky position - it's close to Blackhill but reception from there is dodgy.

Straight away I can see two potential problems - Broughton and Haddington are in the STV East area but their relays are fed from Black Hill, while not all of Edinburgh receives from Craigkelly. I've seen aerials in streets in the north of the city facing both to there and to Black Hill, while the west of Edinburgh is shielded from Craigkelly and so receives from Black Hill.

A good idea in principle, but its reality may turn out to be different.

Of course the relays could be switched... but I doubt if that will happen before digital switchover. It's hardly worth the effort three years before analogue is switched off.

I'm much more concerned about whether STV actually has the resources these days to produce high quality sub opts. Remember the cull in the newsroom a year ago? And remember the sub opts were agreed with Ofcom in return for a massive cut in the number of other regional programmes.

I'm sure people will work hard to make them a success - but how long they can hold up the standard for is another matter.

All very well - but I can't see people in Broughton, Haddington and parts of Edinburgh and the Lothians dashing out to get Sky - that's if they don't already have it, of course - just so that they can get the correct STV News region...!

I still much prefer Scotland Today and North Tonight to RPS.STV are streets ahead with content and Presenters .RPS is just to twee for my liking. If i was to have one complaint about STV/Grampian News and it's only minor i do feel that there is to much sport content. It just annoys me .
