Bank holiday in England but NOT in Scotland......mind you it might be a local Glasgow holiday and thus means that North Scotland now has to follow the central belt rule!!
I suppose Scottish/Grampian/ ST bloody V will as usual be showing the usual ITV bank holiday network rubbish - the change of name regardless of date unfortunately does not equate to better output.

What's Classic FM, then?
Point taken - apologies duly tendered.
Should have mentioned that these are the only national independent POP/ROCK analogue radio stations.

Any word yet on if Grampian will have a farewell show or weekend like LWT did?
I would imagine not as Glasgow would not see that as an important issue........the same as when Grampian were 40 in 2001 and that went un-noticed too......mind you they had a right hoolie when STV was 40!!!!
It is time that the Grampian headbods stood up for the station (too late now though)!!!

Hi Barney,
I think it's safe to assume there'll be no farewell show from Grampian - though if they did one perhaps they'd call it "Grampian Leaves The Family".
Seriously, apart from news Grampian no longer produces anything for transmission solely in its own region... and I can't see SMG wanting to add to the impression that this is the death of Grampian rather than just a rebrand.
No doubt, it'll be mentioned on North Tonight.. but that'll be it. Speaking of which, I hope I'm not being cynical here but I wonder just why the rebrand is on a Tuesday. STV - as in the central belt station - has had a habit over the past 15 years or so of revamping news and idents together. You don't suppose the two news programmes are also going to be renamed - something like STV Today or STV Live - though obviously they'll have to stay editorially distinct... for now.

To stand up for STV, and I don't know if this was just a one-off, but their regional 7:30 opt out last night was excellent (I watched it via Grampian on Sky) It was a really well produced documentary about the Islands in 4000BC. Much better than my local region's opt-out - Luton Airport!

Don't think so....North Tonight has just been refreshed and the one called Grampian News editions are now North Today - obviously looking ahead for when the name Grampian goes......can't understand why we have not heard an outcry because of this though!?!?!?

Hi Barney,
There was a bit of a fuss when SMG announced the renaming. Several MPs and MSPs condemned the move and the Press and Journal ran quite a lot on it.
I'm very sorry to see Grampian passing into history. But it's only a name. The real issue is about whether north and north east Scotland deserves a distinct regional service - and not just local news. For some time all STV and Grampian's non-news output has been shared and it's reasonable to claim that SMG was providing the same product to most of Scotland but using two distinct brands.
The debate shouldn't be the rebranding as such - but why the death by a thousand cuts at Grampian was allowed.
When the rebranding happens, it won't change the character of the station much - afterall the announcements and trails don't even mention the station name. But, whether you loved them or hated them, when the in-vision announcers went in 98 that was a distinct part of Grampian gone for good.
I think the reason that there hasn't been an outcry is that all the battles over things which are actually worth getting worked up over - jobs, regional output and so on - have already been fought and lost.

Thing is though, it's not really a regional opt-out. It was shown on both Scottish and Grampian. There are no non-news shows produced exclusively for Scottish any more.
