The station's final LIVE programme is Scotland Tonight at 7pm this evening. The final Live at 5 is also today. I believe the final show is a repeat late at night tomorrow, but by all accounts, the station as we know it winds out today. It'll be interesting to see Live at 5 this evening. An event is taking place for current/previous staff and lots of guests who've been regulars on the show. Would be a nice gesture to factor it into the show and give it a proper send-off.

Does this mean this is also the final day of the separate Edinburgh based news bulletin, with the opt out from the main bulletin starting on Monday?

Thankful no, due to the ongoing issues, Stirkes, talks etc August is the earliest anything will happen on that front, even then I think union will make it clear there will not expect anything until after the fringe pushing it into september

The closing report from the final STV News Tonight on STV2 this evening, taking a look back at some of the stories they've covered since the programme started. Complete with a nice final touch right at the end as the camera slowly pans away.

Edit: Additional - 20:55
Also, a bonus 'Thanks for Watching' promo that's been airing on STV2 (which I presume is fairly new as it's never been on whenever I've tuned in previously). Showing some of the highlights aired on the channel during its short lifetime.

I have a lot of sympathy with, and admiration of, the people who kept this show on the road - especially when it was STV Glasgow and they had to do a daily two-hour magazine show on a tiny budget.

It was never going to make any money, and it lost its purpose somewhat when it became a national station - the cracks really began to show for me when they attempted to do a version of a Scottish Six on the limited budget they had. But a lot of it was perfectly good telly. If nothing else they'll have good showreels for sending along to their neighbours at the Beeb.

The biggest problem they face, and it'll be an issue for BBC Scotland, is it's incredibly difficult to get people to move the dial at the best of times these days, never mind when you don't have anything exceptional and new for them. Most people are perfectly happy with The Chase or Pointless at 5pm. We are not in a situation like Ireland where people have grown up with a home broadcaster and got used to it, and watched it through generations.

I hope BBC Scotland can make a go of it because I don't think it's healthy that the vast majority of programming comes from London. But it was never going to be a goer for STV.

A shareholder recently increased their stake in STV, taking them up to something like 18%, making them the largest shareholder in STV. At the same time, one of the top managers at STV said there were no plans to sell STV to ITV. Whilst that is the official line, there are a small number of things that might make STV attractive to ITV. Whether ITV is interested is another matter.

Firstly, there is the Glasgow production base, which means ITV PLC has a Scottish base, with studio facilities, and a smaller base in Aberdeen.

Secondly, the small commissions that STV has for the BBC may not be attractive, but it gives ITV a chance to tidy up things, maybe relabeling them ITV Studios as well.

Thirdly, the ability for ITV to now promote fully stuff on ITV2, 3, and 4 on STV would help those channels out.

And an unusual fourth benefit. If, and I stress IF ITV PLC did buy STV, the fact that all the news regions would now be controlled by ITV would give them the option, if it could be agreed with ITN, to have a regional news reporter doing a report for the national news. Such a thing happens on BBC, especially on Breakfast, where recently BBC North West's Andy Gill did a live update on a situation in Liverpool.

But, STV is not selling out to ITV PLC, and ITV PLC, publicly, isn't interested in buying STV.

ITV will probably not go near STV while they is talk of another independence ref.

I did hear talk, that plans were drawn up to just hand border scotland to STV if there was a yes vote.

It would make sense not to start a fight that could cause nothing be trouble.

ITV could by stv, scotland vote yes to leave and will There would questions like News for starters... I dare say the scottish six would happen with the help of ITN. ie just like STV news tonight

People up here have no trouble going to ITVbe let along itv 2 Wink
