There seems to be rumors doing the rounds somewhere that ITV are looking about grabbing the rest of the ITV network IE STV. I can't be sure about this, but it might make a few people happy but I would be careful for what you wish for. I dont think ITV would want to deal with all the political unrest, at the moment. Plus above new requirements, Scotland tonight plus STV2. ITV would also need to continue with the opt outs no matter what..
Opt outs wouldn't be an issue for ITV just like it isn't in NI and Wales, though they would likely axe Scotland Tonight in favour of a weekly show based on what they've said about Border and done with UTV. I doubt they'd take on STV2 - they'd either leave that with STV (which might be their plan) or sell it on ASAP. That's Scotland here we come!

Border scotland has to produced 3 night aweek programme at 10.30pm. ITV could try and kill off Scotland Tonight but that could go down like a lead balloon, and could result in demands from holyrood to get the media powers.
If, and I stress, if ITV did buy STV, I can see Scotland Tonight continuing. What makes me say that is, someone has said Border Scotland have to produce a three nights a week programme. That could be absorbed into the existing Scotland Tonight. ITV could split the Border Scotland region into the East and West STV areas.
But, all this is just hypothetical. Nothing actual has happened.
Anyone seen / downloaded the Thingummyjig trailer to preserve? Have a look at the guy's teeth (38 sec)! What with this, Happy Days, Mr Doo Wop... some crackers this year from STV.
To celebrate 60 years of STV we're taking a spin down memory lane #Thingummyjig and the Laird of Coocaddens returns for a Hogmanay Ceilidh this New Year's Eve at 11.30pm pic.twitter.com/QgLFTbMG6P
I have spotted it a few times but never caught it to record it! That is jack mclaughlin the Laird of Coocaddens Thingummyjig was axed on 1st Jan 1983, It came back as Shindig in 85 and 86.
The STV ident for Dancing on Ice from this evening. For the most part, the usual still image affair, but a bit more interesting than just watching someone scraping the ice off a car window like here in England:-
