Just before the street STV screens went black for about 5 secs after a promo, for Alibi , i think that there should have been another promo before the junction a slide did appear blue background and Scottish TV logo ,the announcer filled , then the ident for the street appeared .

Did this happen on ITV 1.?

If there was meant to be a promo which wasn't there there should have been a Back Soon caption, but it's more likely that they just had a few seconds spare and decided not to play the ident early.

This Is Granada
So this was just Scottish, and Grampian was a-ok? Or did Grampian go black too?

Back soon maybe on ITV 1 ,but i have seen a few STV breakdowns and they NEVER have a back soon caption they usually put a slide or frozen ident up on screen and waffle on . One i remember a few months back it took 45 secs for an announcer to fill !!! .No i believe that something went wrong i have had a quick look at the tape as i was taping corrie the screen was black for 13 secs the slide came up and was on screen for a further 10 secs before the announcer filled he was very slick too and went straight into the link for corrie .

I would have thought the same happend on Grampian as it's the same transmission and announcer.

Yep the same thing happened on Grampian - still grampian tv caption and the announcer (Craig Wallace I think) did a very slick and unruffled fill to the link for Coronation Street.

Isn't the 'Back Soon' caption only there when the regions stay with the network feed too long?

I think GMG North go with a big 'ITV1' logo if it's trailers that they are playing that don't appear.

Does 'This is LNN Transmission Line KRS67' ever find its way into the broadcasting system thesedays?

The Back Soon caption appears if the station goes to a break but there simply are no ads to play out. The big ITV1 caption is generally the first thing thrown up by the region if they have a fault (or "Anglia" or "Meridian" in the case of Anglia and Meridian - surprisingly enough - respectively). If the network itself has a fault, they throw up (or at least used to throw up) the programme name concerned.

Sounds as if STV are still aware of the reason for having a live announcer in the first place..... Nine times out of ten, and this was even before continuity moved to London, GMG North viewers would have had a black screen for the full 30 seconds then continued on as if nothing had happened.

Well done to SMG though... it pays to have announcers on the ball for when everything goes belly up!!!

Craig Wallace was on air at Clyde 1 till 7 tonight.. (I didn't even know he did stuff for SMG anyway - you sure it was him?)

I've seen it a few times on TTTV lately. The Back Soon slide has popped up a few times, once during a primetime slot (I'm sure it was a fault though).

You mean this one?

This example was taken from a breakdown on Central (thanks to TV Mercia! But apparently it used to appear a lot on UTV overnight...

What does KRS mean anyway? Is it something to do with "Kings Road" as I'm sure there used to be a part of ITV that had a "Kings Road" test card.

I have see the LNN slide appear on STV just for a few seconds when they switch straight from GMTV to CITV usually at bank holidays etc .
