Who is the guy that is on stv tonight - he is back on again?? They need to tell him to tone down the accent a great bit.

They (STV) talk about altogether Scotland but what we have is altogether Glasgow "The POLIS all over Tracy in Coronation St"!!!! POLIS is a weegie word and he should be made to pack it in!!

His name is Donald Pirie. On the IMDb, he is credited for playing Callum in River City, and PC Steve in one episode of Spooks. Whether this is the same person or not, I don't know.
I found out his name as he was narrator on the behind the scenes programme of Rebus on ITV3, and also the Spirit of Scotland Awards on stv.
And, just to let you know, Barney, you have asked the same question before: CLICKY Very Happy

Yes I know I have......just cant beleive he is still on!

Very West of Scotland bias.....POLIS, and mentioning Walter Smiths return to Rangers FC makes me feel in Aberdeen that I am watching an alien station!!!

Polis is used in the borders too. I've been known to use it.

And it's used by Fifers who are desperate for a Western identity.

I've heard them called the "holis bolis" round here too.

I love that man on STV. What we need is MORE Scots dialects on the telly, not less.

Perhaps those who complain would be happier watching the vanilla ITV1 service.

Fair point Gavin, 100% agree as long as it is a country wide policy by stv - but I don't hear any North of Scotland or Highland dialects.

Can you imagine the horror in Glasgow if we had an Aberdonian announce "We will be finding out how Jimmy Calderwood's team got on at the weekend in tonights Scotsport"?? Altogether Scotland........altogether Bull^&*t!!!

There are some lovely accents to be heard from the Highlands. I'd be a big fan of hearing some of those on air, too.
