I've not been watching tonight so therefore am not 100% who you mean. However if it's who I'm thinking of this particular announcer (male) has more personality than most of the announcers, who may as well be automated.
In terms of the idents, for the Christmas period they are no longer passing the British Steel logo along between each other. What seems to be happening now is that, instead of using a mix of video between the different versions of the idents, they are using a mix of the one ident so that they don't need to pass the logo about. This means they can add Christmas effects more subtly at the end.
End of the day, most people apart from us wont notice, and maybe they shuold have done this in the first place as it is more subtle and on many occasions looks more professional.

I know what you mean.....there are two male announcers at the moment who are very good.....break away from the normal but the guy tonight seems to be going overboard an he seems very broad Scottish (West coast).
The idents would be fine if there was an ident showing at the end but all we see tonight is this guy on a climbing wall and nothing else - no ident......very shabby!!

I think I know which guy you're talking about. He was narrator on the behind the scenes programme of Rebus on ITV3, and he also narrated on the Spirit of Scotland Awards. His name is Donald Pirie. He does seem quite...bland. There are two other men, one has quite a camp voice, and the other is quite funny when announcing over the ECPs.
